Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Oct 14, 2013 4:02 pm Hi all Just about to start an owner build in Sydney. Need to get public liability and construction insurance. Got a couple of quotes around 1500 but don't know either of the companies and wonder how they will go if I have to claim. Any experiences of costs or claims? Re: Owner Builder - who's best to insure with cost v claims 2Oct 14, 2013 4:06 pm Insurance is a must. Our pool mob went broke (QLD) but SPASA - the pool insurance lot - just paid up. It does cost but it is essential IMO. Re: Owner Builder - who's best to insure with cost v claims 3Oct 15, 2013 5:03 pm Any more thoughts on this topic? We are searching as well. P&R Slaughter Re: Owner Builder - who's best to insure with cost v claims 4Oct 15, 2013 5:40 pm Hi Guys We went with Insurance Brokers mentioned on another thread. Our normal insurance company refused to cover the house whilst we were owner building. 12 months insurance on the house was plus 12 months voluntary workers and workers comp insurance was $2794. One tip I would give is don't organise it until you are going to site. We organised ours back in September but didn't break ground until November - little things like this can add up. Our normal house insurance was approx. $800 and it just cost up $444 to renew the workers comp and voluntary Workers insurance for a further year so therefore I guess the cost of the insurance of the build was approx. $1550.
