Just wondering if anyone could direct me to information regarding what the OB obligations are concerning construction liability, trades safety, workcover, injury etc..? Can insurance be purchased for the construction phase? Should all trades have their own insurances? Cheers!! Rob Re: OB OBLIGATIONS - LIABILITY - CONSTRUCTION 2Sep 12, 2013 8:10 am I would have thought all qualified tradies would have their own insurance. But - I know we have it as part of our house insurance - we had to ask. I think its a 3rd party type of thing - ie when you invite people onto your property to work Many people don't have it apparently - and yet may be liable if something went wrong - eg if your lawn guy slips and falls and breaks a bone etc. But - are you living there - is the house built ? Re: OB OBLIGATIONS - LIABILITY - CONSTRUCTION 4Sep 12, 2013 9:04 am Hi bobtheob If you are OB you are the builder and should have the same insurance Contract works insurance will cover you for 1 works in progress 2 public liability You will also need work cover (are you going to meticulously check everyone has their own? What about friend or family helping?) The best place to start is HIA or MBAV for further advice Foremost Building Expert in Australia, assisting with building problems/disputes, building stage inspections,pre-contract review advice for peace of mind 200 blogs http://www.buildingexpert.net.au/blog Re: OB OBLIGATIONS - LIABILITY - CONSTRUCTION 5Sep 12, 2013 9:11 am Hi bobtheob You can get insurance to cover your trades whilst your are OB it was only approx $400 which I found a great piece of mind. You can also get insurance for others who are helping you out on the build who are being paid to be covered - voluntary workers insurance ie family and friends again this was only like $250. Another thing to consider is when your OB you have to contact your ordinary house insurance and inform them. A lot of insurance companies won't insure your house when you are OB an extension etc (I guess in case you knock down a wall accidently lol). There are specialist insurance companies out there that do cover you. Good luck with your build Akb Re: OB OBLIGATIONS - LIABILITY - CONSTRUCTION 7Sep 12, 2013 9:44 pm Sure I have the details at my office will pm you tomorrow Cheers Akb <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: OB OBLIGATIONS - LIABILITY - CONSTRUCTION 8Sep 14, 2013 12:03 pm We Went with Westcourt General Insurance Brokers 1300 255 747 <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=62083">viewtopic.php?t=62083</a><!-- l --> Re: OB OBLIGATIONS - LIABILITY - CONSTRUCTION 9Sep 14, 2013 12:33 pm We used FD Beck for insurance when we owner built our home.
