Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 May 21, 2013 10:45 pm What is the best way to level a ceramic tile sloped floor? The room used to be a garage. It is about 30cm different in height from one end to the other. It is about 25 sqm. The previous owner installed ceramic tiles over the concrete floor without leveling it first. I'm thinking that, 1. Lay a moisture barrier over the floor, 2. Build a timber frame over it to level the floor 3. Install flywood over the frame 4. Finally, install floating floor. Does this work? I'm open for all suggestions. Thanks Re: How to level a ceramic tile sloped floor? 2May 23, 2013 10:26 am Hi What is the room currently, You said it used to be a garage but what is it currently? Also what finish do you want on top? are you going with tile? floor board? carpet? You can do this but there is are massive downsides. Termites love dark and damp areas. By Having a cavity in your floor then the cavity will sweat. This will invite termites into the cavity and once they begin they are costly to stop. Also timber rot will become a massive issue with doing this. Where there is no airflow then moisture build up will occur between temperatures. The best way to fix this issue is by removing the existing tiles and putting a sand cement topping into the garage therefor raising the floor to a level position. You could also use a self leveling non-shrink construction grout. to save on money you don't have to raise the floor to be completely level, you said it dips 30mm from one end to the other just raise it to 20 mm, a 10 mm slop over the 25 sqm will be less noticeable Hope this helped Daniel Its easy for a Tradesmen to take your money. Its even easier to do somethings yourself Re: How to level a ceramic tile sloped floor? 3May 23, 2013 5:40 pm Thanks for your reply. The room is empty and is not being used for anything. I plan to install floating floor (laminate flooring), then put up new plasterboards on walls and ceiling, and probably turn it into a gym room. Cement had come to mind but I thought it was too complicated and messy. If using sand cement, do I really have to remove all the tiles first? isn't a garage level with the rest of the house a given? pretty sure they 'came around' long time ago. if you have a flat block, the garage is usually level with the rest… 1 17511 Any recommendations for builders for a KDRB in North Warrandyte ?
