I am looking to extend my family home and need some advise on steps i need to take as an owner builder. I have had the draftsman draw my design 38sqm area. Its my understanding I need to.... complete an owner builders course get all relevant insurance have a structural engineer plan the concrete slab submit to council for approval I plan on getting a contractor to lay the concrete , footings and brick work .I would like to do the house frame myself and this is where I am lost . How do i go about getting the house frame ? do i need an engineer to plan that as well? Re: house extention 2May 28, 2013 7:20 pm Assuming the details are correct, you don't really need an engineer. Just stay with the building code (BCA) or AS1684. But, really I just take the finished plans to a frame builder (for supply only) and they just drop the timber and go.
