Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Apr 15, 2013 7:32 pm Hi First post. Just having a Bex and a good lie down, here. I thought you might like to know the final cost of the off-grid infrastructure - no second hand or clever resourcefulness involved, just bought what we wanted (c/o Super & many years of workin' for the man). Don't let this make your dream seem impossible. If we were a little younger, we would have done things differently - you can do it more cheaply if you put your mind to it and have more t-i-m-e to source stuff. I am trying hard to rally to the future call of 'zilch' service charges, but I am going to have to live for another 30yrs to really appreciate it! Okay, here it is....$61,430...and here is the breakdown (in both senses). Greywater trenches/tank, set up & plumbing $9130 2.3kw solar - $24 000 Composting toilet - $3300 Woodstove w/waterjacket & solar hot water - $12 000 Tanks - $9000 Electrician wiring & labour $ 2000 (I know, this is not truly off-grid infrastructure) Woodheater - $2000 The woodstove may seem a luxury, but is a long held dream come true. I am posting because it may give someone out there a heads-up about the cost of new off-grid infrastructure. OB labour has really reduced our overall costs. We have off-sided a builder to lock-up and will have a shell of a house to fill in ourselves - kitchen, bathroom, everything, and very much a recycled proposition from this point on.
