Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Dec 26, 2012 11:32 am Heya all, we're looking at building a shed home on our block in Serpentine, not sure whether it's a good idea or not. It's the country home from Widespan sheds, sorry not sure how to attach a link. It's huge and seems better value than we could get going through a normal builder, but that's hard to tell without knowing exactly what else I will have to buy and developing a rough costing to start with that I can narrow down as I go along. I think we may be biting off more than we can chew, not sure how hard this will be and everyone we've talked to has given us different feedback. We have no building experience and are by no means handymen but we're smart and organised. Any advice/feedback anyone has would be great, and if anyone has built a shed home before and has any photos that's be great! A lot depends on how complete and detailed the components in the kit are. Second storey will complicate erection with OHS Scaffold compliance. Shortly doing an OB myself, but will use a contracted Builder for the walls and internals. My only hands on will be Kitchen assembly (CKD), excavation and possibly painting. Just using your organisational powers, the ability to negotiate fair rates for good tradies and suppliers of all those PC and other items, you should still manage a decent saving.
