Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Dec 11, 2012 9:24 pm Hi all, I am a Melbourne based architect currently undertaking a project with my father who is based in the Huonvalley, Tasmania. He has a great big old shed on his property which we are turning into self contained guest accommodation. The project has been underway for a couple of months now, and I just stumbled upon this forum and thought this was a good platform to share some of the progress. The existing shed is approximately 12m long x 6m wide x 6m high. The beauty of the space ****** within the timber framed roof structure (think typical high-gabled farm shed) and the incredible 100 year old hardwood floor. The shed was literally falling down - in a terrible state - the idea through the project is to save this great bit of rural infrastructure and enhance the family property whilst enabling a bit of income from leasing it out as a B&B. The space and material structure of the existing shed is maintained and enhanced by adding additional program - a bathroom and bedroom - in the form of pods which ‘strap-on’ to the existing structure in order to retain the volume of the original form and space internally (rather than fill it up with these spaces.) The budget is tight - he is hoping to bring it in at around $100k-$120k (Total project cost - including all fees, fixtures, fittings.) I will endeavour to upload a number of photos of the progress - but for now please find below images of the existing shed and a couple of renders of the design.
