Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Dec 05, 2012 9:54 am So i just saw something i like..... and it has me wondering what are the cost differences with having a wooden deck vs just concreting the area..... thinking about the back entertainment area... its large.... and decking is something we could do our selves vs having to get contractors in to concrete the whole thing, and it can be done after the house is built (there for possibly not needing to be included in the loan???? (maybe) but i figure if we are doing the labour it has the possibility to be cheaper right? Re: quick question - re decking vs concrete patio $$ 2Dec 05, 2012 9:58 am You can concrete yourself and personally, I find concreting easier than decking. The other half has demanded a deck though so that's what we're building. Don't forget your permits. For us to build a deck of approx 5x5m we need around $850 of permits from the council (partly because we are building over an easement). They say concrete is about $70 per square metre. This includes setup, boxing, mesh, pour and finish. This also assumes that there is good access to the location to pour. For decking, I have no idea. I haven't costed it up yet. Re: quick question - re decking vs concrete patio $$ 3Dec 05, 2012 1:28 pm if the decking is on the plans with the house when submitted to council (and not over an easement) then that wouldnt be an issue there right? (its would all be under the one cost? ) guess i should price the decking and concreting .... hubby wants the house slab done by the pros - so thats gonna happen - but if we omit the patios and leave them till after that will save a crap load and they don't have to be as intense as the house slab as they aren't bearing much more weight than an awning right?? think i will be calling my dad in on this one... hes not only an ex shed contractor hes laid a number of slabs (double bay carports and what not) around his place doing all the prep work himself (with us as child slaves... lol) .... hummm this house buiding business is fun and horrible!!! - and we haven't even started building yet!!! Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10971 1. Roof cleaning and paint - which colour do you recommend? I often see black/ dark grey in use these days but I would prefer… 0 8323 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16138 |
