Ballarat OB - Strawbale

Hello,

Have learned much from these forums and wish to give some back.

I'm constructing a strawbale house with no skills, training .etc.

My hope is that somebody will find this information useful.
Feel free to ask any questions, learn from my mistakes instead of making them yourself.
Anybody can build a house (except for plumbing/electrical/roofing per the law).

Woot!

All the framing is done.
With the exception of the trusses, everything went very smoothly.

The rest of the work is much less critical. I will be infilling the walls with strawbales in a month when i have some free time once more and adding external windows and doors. The most important thing here is to get nice tight seals between all the external elements and avoid ANY air infiltration.
Then internal detailing which I can do at a much less frantic pace out of the wind and rain; I'v been rained on soooo much these last 2.5 months, looking forward to the dryness.

If anybody here has build a strawbale / cob / rammed earth home i would love to know where you obtained your clay from.

I know you can get it from some hardware in 20kg bags however there must be more economical ways to obtain it. I'm in Ballarat 3350. Anybody know of a good source of clay??
