Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jul 12, 2012 11:32 pm Me and my brother jointly owns the land and I would like to build two double storey townhouses for both of us as residence. Can i build both of them myself as an owner builder? I heard that owner builder can only build "one house" every 3 years? Re: Can I build two townhouses as a builder? 4Jul 15, 2012 9:08 pm I think JB1 is on the right track, the only thing I can think of is that one of the requirements of an O/B is that you must actually live in the house. So if it is 2 separate "houses" it would need 2 separate names as O/B's. They also must be lived in for a certain period of time (may vary state to state). So if building with your brother, I believe you would first have to register each as separate titles in your name and your brothers name (strata perhaps?) and then may be able to build as one project although each has it's own separate identity. I definitely would seek information from your State's Building Commission before commencing anything, and also depending on the result of that some form of legal opinion to back it up or refute it for the issue of a building permit. this link will help find contact details assuming your in Melbourne from your sig. http://www.buildingcommission.com.au/ww ... e-page.asp Settlement 1/2/12 New Shed 23/3/12 Slab poured 27/3/12 Frame complete 4/5/12 Roof complete 1/6/12 LOCKUP 29/6/12 Our new build blog http://kareenhillsownerbuild.blogspot.com/ multiple occ properties are always billed by trades at a premium, rarely per sqm for the lot.
