Cheers guys. Yvonneh, the red bricks came from someone in West Hobart who'd demolished an old wall. Red bricks for paving are remarkably hard to find in Tassie (the local brick company stopped making them years ago). Cleaned bricks can go for $2-4 per brick! I cry when I see how cheaply they go for on Gumtree in Melbourne and Sydney... Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 347Jun 05, 2015 3:11 pm Quote: Cleaned bricks can go for $2-4 per brick! I cry when I see how cheaply they go for on Gumtree in Melbourne and Sydney... One of our neighbours gave away about a thousand a few months back... Not what you want to hear I know but around here everyone is over the old red brick and terracotta roof houses built in the '40's. Stewie Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 348Jun 07, 2015 12:29 am Haha looks like it would have been a great party! Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 349Jun 07, 2015 10:43 pm Hi mate Love the stone work on the fireplace (well actually the whole house is stunning) looking at doing the same with my fireplace The Eldorado stones are a USA company Did you source locally ?? Cheers Tim Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 350Jun 09, 2015 11:08 am timbo43 The Eldorado stones are a USA company. Did you source locally ?? Tim, I sourced Eldorado Stone through Adbri Masonry down here (the first to do so in Hobart apparently). It's made in Indonesia, so I'm guessing they get it shipped direct. Thanks for the info Another questions if I may.. On the start of the fire build you used Blocks for the base but on later pictures it seem to be a board or is it just my bad eyesight Thanks again Cheers Tim Re: My new house at Fern Tree, Tasmania 352Jun 09, 2015 2:19 pm timbo43 Another questions if I may. On the start of the fire build you used Blocks for the base but on later pictures it seem to be a board... No worries Tim. Nope, the house is all brick -- concrete blocks for the foundation walls, and commons for the rest. Then rendered over the top. When I eventually get to the studio, I'm thinking of just blue-boarding with render... insulation products are good enough these days.
