Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jul 05, 2012 12:28 pm Hi Guys, I need to get some glass ballastrading done for a 1st floor terrace area which we have. So far this is working out to be one of the more expensive items for the project and I want to see if there are any other options for me before I go ahead and bite the bullet. So basically I want about 31m of glass ballastrading done around the the perimeter of the terrace. On the east side of the terrace is a 9.6m length that needs to have a 1.7m high obscured glass there for planning reasons. On the west side there is a parapet that needs to have a 650mm high glass there running 7.6m. The remaining glass (13.64m)) is 1m high. I want the posts to be coloured aluminium and they will be fixed into brickwork/wood below. So far for 6mm toughened glass with a slimline top rail I have been quoted in the vicinity of $13,000 (ouch). This is from a company that specialises in ballustrading. I believe a cheaper option would be to try to buy glass panels and install them myself, but the downside is that the sizes are fixed and I might not be able to get the best looking spacing for my situation. I think I might also face issues with sourcing the 1.7m high panels. would the good folks here have any advice or avenues I can look into to try and bring the costs down? Happy to get more quotes if you have had good experiences with other companies. Thanks, Ray. Melbourne. Re: Advice on glass ballustrading 2Jul 25, 2012 11:17 pm You can buy glass balustrading (pool style and frameless) from Masters. That's probably the most cost effective way. My place I couldn't use their product because the sizes didn't fit - so I had "clearly frameless" do the work. Wound up hiring them to do the kitchen backslashes, mirrors, balustrading and showers. Very professional and efficient job. Would recommend them if you can't do it yourself with off the shelf product from masters. my house blog: http://sugarloafdrivebuild.blogspot.com/ Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 17420 Need to remove glass panel out of concrete without wrecking the glass to get the spa room in, any recommendations on how to do that. Thank you 0 39039 |
