I can only take a certain amount of credit for the design - we have a GREAT Architect to thank who has been extremely understanding and open to assist with any questions we had/will have...and very well priced! BradS - its costing us enough but am fortunate to have a lot of the trades (especially the windows) in family AHoward - I assume you mean the internal shots - BLACK is the hot & cold, YELLOW is gas and GREEN is the charged water from the tank to the toilets Re: ...The drenched Owner Builder of Western Sydney... 26May 03, 2012 10:12 am Additional progress - Scaffolding gone, sparkie and air con rough-in complete this week. Re: ...The drenched Owner Builder of Western Sydney... 29May 08, 2012 8:20 am Simply stunning ... I foresee many great times out in that entertainment area (which looks superb in the architect's 3D image). I'll be following this post with interest, along with many others. And, please, keep up the mix of the "interesting" and "boring" pictures ... lots can be learnt from the latter! Re: ...The drenched Owner Builder of Western Sydney... 31May 08, 2012 9:59 am Fantastic custom house , hats off to your ingenuity to put in a "bridge" love it can't wait to see the finished product! Re: ...The drenched Owner Builder of Western Sydney... 32May 14, 2012 4:57 pm Thanks again for the positive comments all - means a lot I had the opportunity to spend the last week at the house to run the data cabling and drag lines through out before the renderer and gyprocker starts making a complete mess of the inside. Took a lot longer than i expected (mostly because I didnt want to take any shortcuts otherwise IM the one that will pay for it later) 1 word of warning - if you can avoid it, try not to work while the brick cleaner is there; not a pleasant smell I will tell you and even harder to work in! Some more pics (Interesting AND boring - just for icf_ext!); Nice Clean bricks (almost - some subtle white lines i need to get rid off but should be easy enough); Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Some of the Data and speaker cabling I ran though the house; Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This one is me waiting for the tradie to come back with tools and wanting to muck around with the phone camera. Im sitting on top of the blade wall at the front of the house while trying to install 2 sash windows, looking out to the park in front of us - SHOULD have fit it off when the scaffolding was there but @ $400/week, ill stand on the timbers thank you very much! Re: ...The drenched Owner Builder of Western Sydney... 35May 16, 2012 9:14 am Thanks for the comments guys and no - I have 3 little rugrats of our own and that will do us Renderer is booked in for next week which is great and just got the gyprock quotes so should have one next week Re: ...The drenched Owner Builder of Western Sydney... 36May 16, 2012 8:32 pm JMAP Some more pics (Interesting AND boring - just for icf_ext!); Thanks! That's a lot of data cabling - it may look like a house, but come on, you can tell us, it's really an office, isn't it? Is it just general Internet connectivity, or are there other purposes (phone? distributed MediaPortal system?)? Re: ...The drenched Owner Builder of Western Sydney... 37May 18, 2012 3:52 pm One room will be a study which I hope to be able to work from home A LOT more than I currently do Regarding the cabling, it can be used for a raft of different uses, hence the reason for almost every power having a data point next to it. Internet is one (mainly for where ever a TV is as ill be running a different media pc through the house - XBMC - probably the best media centre application on the market AND free!! Other reasons are for; * An intercomm to all main rooms * Distributed audio * Home automation (combination of wired and wireless/RF) * Future proofing for POE (Power-Over-Ethernet) appliances which are not far away * My general dislike for having cables laying around the floor If I had to pay for it to be installed, I probably wouldn't have gone as far as I did, but I was able to get the cabling cheap and did the work myself Re: ...The drenched Owner Builder of Western Sydney... 39May 22, 2012 1:07 pm This house is so wonderfully different ... it's coming together very nicely. Our Building on 118 acres in South Gippsland thread - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=54556 Re: ...The drenched Owner Builder of Western Sydney... 40Jun 05, 2012 11:12 am Minor progress; Renderer has another 2-3 days of work then his done - happy with the product he has delivered, just hassles with progress payments and INTERPRETATIONS of agreements. This is the negatives of not having everything in writing up front (which I have been good for so far) We have installed all the insulation upstairs in roof and walls - needless to say we were scratching for about 2 days post finishing. I will however vouch for the Bradford batts - I found them to not cause any irritation where as the cheaper product I bought of a friend - not the same. I can endorse these batts 110% for ease of installation. Worth the extra pennies! Plumber has finished the internal stack work as well. Baths had to be selected so rather than just picking them and running the risk of the store running out, I just bought them and have to store them for the time being Gyprocker is selected and ready to go once renderer is done Lastly, Jemena came and tunnelled under the road (long Gas installation), connected to the run from the house to the boundary and installed the meter (all for $220!! - still don't know how this works but couldn't care - great value and initiative by the Gov't). They did however manage to dig through the storm water pipe coming around the corner of the house where they installed the meter (pic below) - so far they have been good about acknowledging that this happens and I am going through the process of resolving this with them. At least they didn't just backfill the hole and leave it for me to wonder why the grass is so long on that part of the yard for years to come!!
