Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 101May 05, 2012 1:17 am Jo, of course there are merits in energy efficiency. drpopper has said that the house will incorporate efficiency features as long as they don't change the aethetics of their home and that it is 6 star rated. The point however is that this thread should not continue to be overtaken by comments about efficiency and sustainability and yet you have added your personal comments about your experiences that have nothing to do with this build. Comments were made already in response to drpoppers personal tastes and it already got out of hand. Opinions are great but when opinions have been exchanged already there is no need to continue to subject the op to further comments on this topic. I would have thought new posters would read a few pages to see the topic had been discussed before making unfair accusations of arrogance. Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 102May 05, 2012 1:34 am Hey Mike, I frequently add personal comments about my experiences to threads. . . I think it's what the forum is all about, and it's how we learn from others' mistakes. I offer no apology for that and I will continue to do it. Anybody is entitled to post a comment on anybody's thread at any time. . . If I don't like the colour you're painting your house, I'm entitled to say this. . . why shouldn't a new poster be entitled to also tell you that they don't like the colour that you're painting your house. . . by creating a thread you open yourself up to both positive and negative comments. Six star rating appears to be the minimum requirement for any new house build. My point is that a lot of people would love to make their house more energy efficient, but don't have the money. . . I personally would love to see Kevin presenting this house as a Grand Design. . . his final comments are always priceless. Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 103May 05, 2012 1:46 am It's been done to death already jodge. Opinion were offered, op responded. It should be the end of THAT particular line of enquiry. Your previous post about what you should have done to your house has no relevence whatsoever here. No argument with you about posting on threads, that's what we're doing here half the time! I am not going to debate any further here as we are both now detracting from what should be a exciting time and read for drpopper Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 104May 05, 2012 8:03 am I am going to lighten the mood and change the subject. Mike - my DS just saw your avatar picture of Lion King and got very excited I will be bugged all day to watch the movie now. I personally am really looking forward to watching this build unfold and I hope drpopper is not put off by the debate. From the sounds of it she was brave enough to set up the thread (with a DH who thought she shouldn't), but she could go off line any moment and there are lots of people who are excited about this build. It will be a magnificent house! Build Thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43846 Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 106May 05, 2012 2:34 pm After this latest round of attacks on our new house build and also what seem to me as personal attacks from people against us we have decided it's best to withdraw further participation in this thread from the forum. I'm sorry that a small minority of jealous and ignorant people and socialist greenies are stopping me from sharing our build in a exciting and harmonious way with their constant harping and interjections about things that we have made clear are just not a priority for us but now these have descended into personal attacks boring on harassment and abuse. So after discussions with my husband we have decided that enough is enough. I don't mind debate and people asking about our choices but the personal assaults on us are ruining my enjoyment of sharing our building journey. There are many houses being built on this forum that I don't like, many bathrooms, kitchens, paint colours, finishes and styles. But I wouldn't dream of disparaging anyone elses personal choice for their house, if I personally don't like something I'd never comment on it because it's not my house and not my business what other people choose for their houses. It's their money and their taste and they are entitled to display it however they wish to do so. To put up negative comments about another persons building choices because you don't like them yourself is poor form. On questions of taste and style there is no right or wrong therefore these kinds of posts are useless. Absolutely people should feel free to ask questions, debate and explore but posting nasty personal attacks on people because they are not building what you would build or because (incredibly enough) someone can't afford a solar heating service in their own house ( how our thread has anything to do with what people can afford in their own house is beyond my comprehension ) is plain rude pure and simple. I must apologise to the majority of the nice kind people here who have embraced our project and offered us support and encouragement particularly in the face of some of the stuff that's gone on that we are not going on with the thread. I'm sorry you won't be able to see the build unfold but with any luck keep your eye's peeled in the newsagency in about 2 years time and you might see the results of all that's about to go on. I'd also like to thank a lot of people here for helping me when we were in the research stage of our build and many of your threads have been invaluable tools for us with our own building projects. Once again my apologies to those that seem as excited as us but I just don't want this type of negativity surrounding the creation of our new house. Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 109May 05, 2012 8:35 pm So sorry drpopper - totally understand it. All the best Our building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51657 Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 111May 05, 2012 10:48 pm Unbelievable .... Sounds like some people are caught up in this global warming scaremongering .... What's the point of spending thousands to have solar panels on your roof that may save you money over a long period of time when the government keep changing the goalposts ... We've decided not to put in water tanks which would costs thousands ... it costs more in sewerage charges to flush your toilet than water .. I'm just saying these feel good things are not just about what you can afford but a conscious decision about where your money is best spent ... Wish you all the best in your build drpopper and wish you would reconsider ... Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 112May 06, 2012 1:14 am We are indeed offended by particular comment/s posted within this thread. Unfortunately, some are not able to debate / disagree without feeling the need to add a personal stab or two. This appalling display of behaviour is strictly not accepted nor condoned - and as per the Forum Terms of Use. In this particular case it would only be right of us to step in and ask you, the member/s in question, that you send a PM (BCC'd to homeone) with your sincere apology to drpopper, or that you kindly leave. Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 113May 07, 2012 7:53 am I am devastated that I've only just come across this thread for the first time this morning and the poster has been hounded away. What a terrible shame. I would have dearly loved to have seen this home being built. Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 114May 07, 2012 9:22 am So sad to hear what has been happening here, now we will all miss out on watching a fantastic home coming together, please change your mind drpopper Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 115May 07, 2012 11:59 am Oh dear - I'll have to get my voyeuristic thrills elsewhere.......Such a shame things got out of hand because YOUR build was one I was very interested in watching unfold. Best of luck with it all Owner Building on 1800sqm Sanity Intact so far Locked up March 2012 Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 117May 09, 2012 3:05 pm Hi folks, First of all thanks for your many kind messages and posts it feels so nice to know that quite a few people are as excited to see our build unfolding as we are. This is a difficult position for me as I've always wanted to share our build with others but my husband who is a very private person has never been keen on it and when I got upset about some of the post's he argued strongly that we should withdraw from the thread and I respect his views on that. And also with what i was feeling it was easier to cut and run away then stay and feel bad about things so I'm sorry I gave in to that impulse. I'd also like to publicly acknowledge Jo (jodge) for sending me a series of apologetic (although she really didn't say much to offend) and conciliatory messages that has led to us having a better understanding of each others position and of course nobody is going to agree on everything in any area of life let alone something as personal and emotional as building a new house. Right now I'm going to leave things as they are (not much is happening in any case, the plans are at council) but later on with my husbands approval once I lead him around gently to my view I will probably continue to add to the thread. In any case thanks for the nice comments and support.
