This has been discussed before indi and borders on harassment in my opinion. Sure, you're entitled to your view but the discussion has been had and its time to move on. The op does not want to compromise their vision of their home and this is their right to do so. There are other places you can discuss sustainability concepts here without resorting to insulting language (as if that wins anyone over). People create threads for their build for sharing and sometimes feedback and advise but as I said it has been discussed. I feel for drpopper that the thread on their truly grand design continues to be overtaken by these negative comments. Drpopper, I have been silently following this thread and look forward to seeing it take shape. Sorry, felt I had to respond in this instance! Re: Our New Build on Acreage in South Gippsland 100May 05, 2012 12:37 am Sorry mike. While I do appreciate that you are offended by indi's words. . . I agree with indi's sentiment that dr popper is NOTdoing what we all wish we could. I, for one would love to install solar heating, BUT we can't afford it. I wish that I had the knowledge then that I have now about passive solar design, but I didn't, and now I have a huge alfresco roof where the sun should be streaming into my house in winter. I wish that I'd done more research about air conditioning, as now I have to cool a big lounge, kitchen and dining room whenever I want to cool another area in the house. I remember dr popper saying that she would not compromise style for the environment. . . I would compromise the look of my roof to have a solar system on there. . . but maybe that's because I'd also be happy about saving some money from electricity bills. . . Maybe this is the problem. The majority of people would like a house which is warm in winter and cool in summerto save money as well as help the environment, whereas dr popper & family seems to have so much money that heating and cooling costs don't worry them. . . . Edit: I suppose my point is. . . I wish I'd known then what I know now. . . I have learnt (mostly through this forum) about the benefits of passive solar design. As you mentioned before, this topic has already been discussed before, and the OP has decided that design comes first. . . why shouldn't other posters be able to comment on this? Should new posters be constrained to telling the OP what a fantastic house they're building? Surely we're all allowed an opinion? 1 4581 Well these guys are not looking good...
