Re: Owner Building a PAAL Camden in the Lower Hunter Valley 64Apr 15, 2012 9:27 pm Am I allowed to have a little moment at this point and say "I will never, ever again owner build, project build, private build or have anything at all to do with building EVER AGAIN"....just allow me a small portion of pity tonight (tomorrow I'll be over it and back on track...) I do remember saying years ago that there were 2 things I would NEVER do: 1. Live in a new estate 2. Build a new house So it goes to show I may say things and NOT mean them.... We chose to follow the colorbond colour "Paperbark" that we had used for our eaves and downpipes - we went half strength and double strength....it's all fairly bland looking but I would prefer that to having a "WOW - fashionable colour scheme" that I'll need to repaint in 5 years or so when it's not so fashionable. We haven't decided on the colour we'll bag the sides and back, but it will probably be either in the same vein as the trim, or a brownish colour like the front bricks that we are going to leave bare.........anyway, that's a while off - plenty of time to mull it over Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Owner Building on 1800sqm Sanity Intact so far Locked up March 2012 Re: Owner Building a PAAL Camden in the Lower Hunter Valley 68Apr 21, 2012 12:44 pm Love the facade, perfect colour. Re: Owner Building a PAAL Camden in the Lower Hunter Valley 69Apr 21, 2012 4:13 pm Hi pattycake, I haven't chosen our internal colours but when I do it will be simple - our kitchen is antique white with a light flecked benchtop, so I'll keep the colours light - the only thing that I can't decide on is how to do the skirting and architraves......lighter/darker/satin finish/gloss finish etc.....I should go down to the display homes and have a look at what effect I like the best. I will be painting our hallways at half strength as I don't want them dark, and our house with it's verandas has the tendancy to be a little dark inside. Don't know if I'm doing feature walls or different colours here and there - might give it a miss this time round . Our daughters want particular colours in their rooms so I'll do that - kids....their rooms will need repainting in a few years anyway dirty grots !! I think the thing that really sets off you house and is really striking are your beautiful cedar window frames. Definitely worth all the blood sweat and tears, they're beautiful and so unique. Plus they really go with the colour of your bricks. I'm really jealous that you've finished painting your verandahs and how good they look. I haven't done any painting of our outside yet and our verandah is looking soooo long, not to mention ugly. I'm also cursing my DH for insisting on open eaves. We didn't have time to paint the rafter tails before they put the tin on the roof (plus they were soaking wet so we couldn't) so now I've got about 7 thousand of the suckers to paint 3 coats on without getting any paint on the tin At least I've finished painting the inside of the house, oh, except for the 33 internal doors that I keep forgeting that I still have to paint I'm impressed by all the wall insulation that you did on your own, you're a legend! I hate to think how itchy you were at the end of that!!! Our ceiling insulation is still sitting up in our ceiling still in the bags. We've been puting it off waiting for the weather to cool down as it was waaaay too hot up there through summer to lay it out. I think we'll be dressed the same as you, it's so prickly and itchy Well done with all your hard work, I'm really impressed Tammy Our owner-builder journey - viewtopic.php?f=38&t=45187 Re: Owner Building a PAAL Camden in the Lower Hunter Valley 74May 05, 2012 2:39 pm Hi Tammy, Thanks for your comments...it helps to keep motivated to finish. Yes, I was/am itchy after doing the insulation. I have done half of the ceiling this morning (I had an early start) as my husband said that we'd just throw the bags up in the roof to do later - I knew that would never happen so I have gotten stuck into it this weekend. Hey .....don;t be jealous of a few lousy painted veranda posts - we've still got to do to WHOLE inside !!! Plus numerous doors too . I don't envy you the open eaves job tho - save it for a day when you're fresh and motivated and put some killer music on LOUD !!!! (I am thinking about PAYING a professional to paint the doors though ) Lyndall Owner Building on 1800sqm Sanity Intact so far Locked up March 2012 Re: Owner Building a PAAL Camden in the Lower Hunter Valley 75May 06, 2012 3:55 pm I've spent the last 2 days putting up the ceiling bats. My thinking is that it would be easier to do it from underneath BEFORE the gyprock was put up (Which is kicking off tomorrow) DH said we should just throw the bags up in the ceiling and spread them around, but after having to put the bats in the garage ceiling after the gyprock was there and it was soooo difficult and HOT........I thought it would be worth my putting the effort in now (and as DH is working this weekend and not overly keen about doing ANY of the insulation I am left to complete - not too bad of a job though with my earbuds in and no children pestering ) I'm not too sure if I've done an OK job - I've kept a foot square gap around the spots where the downlights are going and tried to keep the elctrical cables ON TOP of the bats where I could......anyway, it's done and ticked of our never-ending list Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Owner Building on 1800sqm Sanity Intact so far Locked up March 2012 Re: Owner Building a PAAL Camden in the Lower Hunter Valley 76May 06, 2012 4:19 pm Wow,what a worker some of the build site would love to have you working on their builds My kitchen went in on friday, looks good, still trying to work out colours Re: Owner Building a PAAL Camden in the Lower Hunter Valley 77May 06, 2012 5:04 pm A kitchen !! Wow !! Congratulations !! You won't be far off moving in?? I don't know about working on other jobs....hehe....it's the motivation to get this house finished that pushes me along - though I'm feeling stiff and sore and itchy as a result of my labors Have just found out that the plasterers AREN'T coming until Wed/Thurs so all the rushing around has been pointless as I suspect that in "tradie speak" Wed/Thurs means that it wil probably be some time in the FOLLOWING week that they'll get there.
