Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Feb 20, 2012 12:57 pm Does anyone know of any good companies that have Owner/Builder insurance products? I did a web search, but I'm getting some questionable results (and the big companies don't seem to offer it)... FD Beck's policy is from QBE which I noticed quite a few brokers quoting on. As a broker they were good to deal with, knowledgeable and price competitive Good luck https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=44762 My Owner builder journey extending a 1930's Bungalow Re: Owner/builder insurance suppliers 5Feb 20, 2012 8:28 pm We also used FD Beck for construction insurance. Re: Owner/builder insurance suppliers 6Feb 20, 2012 10:57 pm We went through an insurance broker and they found us a policy with CGU. One word of warning though, we didn't realise that it's not easy to extend your policy past the initial 12 months. We got our insurance as soon as we started site works as we wanted to be covered for public liability etc. for when the site cut, plumbing pre-lay and concrete slab were done. We then had a 5 month delay waiting for our bricks and father in law (long story). We had always intended to take 2 years to build but didn't realise it could be a problem extending the insurance. When the first 12 month policy was due to expire we applied for a futher 12 months and they said no. They said they would only extend it for an additional 6 months. After much pleading and stressing and filling out of forms as to the reasons why there was a delay they agreed to extend it for an additional 12 months (they agreed the day after the policy had expired), The policy has written at the bottom in bold caps that no additional extensions will be approved. We have to have occupancy of the house by June. Not sure if anyone else has had this experience or if it was just CGU? Was a bit stressful at the time as we had the roof carpenters working on the roof when our policy expired and we really didn't want them to fall off!
