Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Dec 28, 2011 3:44 pm Hi all I thought I would drop in and say hi We are in the process of going down the owner builder path. We have purchased our block of land and are currently finalising the purchase agreement with Kitome (I have been reading up on Raleighfarm's experience which is how I found this forum in the first place ) We have a few more i's to dot and t's to cross and then we should be a bit further along. We have had the soil testing done and are waiting for the results on what sort of slab we will need. It's a large project that will take a lot of time but we are so excited about it. We are using a private certifier to do the DA & CC for us. Fortunately we have plenty of people in trades to help out when we need them. Fingers crossed there aren't too many hiccups - although I am expecting quite a few LOL Thanks for sharing your experiences in here. No doubt they'll keep us going during the process Here is an idea of what we are doing.... Re: New project in the Hawkesbury 3Dec 28, 2011 6:25 pm Hi Kiwi We are building the house for my mum as well (who is financially contribuing to the build). She has the 3 bedroom section at the front of the house. I found the link and the photos look great, as does the catch up Re: New project in the Hawkesbury 4Dec 28, 2011 8:07 pm Lovely area, Emmsiek We've just moved out of Windsor, I'll miss it! Re: New project in the Hawkesbury 5Dec 28, 2011 8:19 pm i use to live at maroota. use to go to wisemans ferry playgroup, a LONG time ago! shopping at windsor was a joy, i loved it. Re: New project in the Hawkesbury 6Dec 28, 2011 10:07 pm Hi Emmsiek! (waves). Firstly, congratulations on taking the plunge! I look forward to following your build. There will be ups and downs in every build, so always remember to keep your eye on the prize as will will in fact reach the end. Owner building has some special challenges to it but it also has some fantastic benefits over the conventional process. I would love to see the actual plans if/when you have them. The house(s) look big. I know with our build that we were worried about it not being big enough but as kiwi said...its huge. I guess if you have read some of my thread then you will see we are a looney lot with lots to say, sometimes about not much at all. This forum was my sanity while building. Not sure my marriage would have survived otherwise...and have now made some lasting friendships. Use this forum for whatever you need; advice, ranting, support, laughs, bragging. We love it all, especially pics. Best of luck with finalising the plans etc. Thanks Kiwi for the link. Family is still there so I can do a stalking drive-by of your house when its all done RF Build: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=34534 Flooring: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=39733 Chat: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=53303 Re: New project in the Hawkesbury 8Dec 29, 2011 11:54 am Thanks everyone for the responses We love the area as well. We just sold our house in South Windsor 5 days after the first open house! A young family bought it as their first home. I know they will be happy here. We completely renovated this house and they love it as much as we do. In fact they first saw the house on a Thursday and by 10am the next day we did the deal. I designed the layout of the house so if things dont work out then I only have myself to blame LOL. Including the verandah areas the house is 432m2 (12 x 36). We also have a separate shed that is 8 x 12 with a 5m carport on the front and a mezzanine level for storage. The plan is to build the shed first and use that for storage of the kit and tools while we build. Once the house is up half the shed will become the area for our online business that I run with mum. How nice not to have to drive to her house to go to work, I can simply walk out the back door to the shed. We havent decided on the exterior yet. I would like to do a double height brick but one of the threads in here has me re-thinking my decision. I think I need to talk more to a few brickies. I promise there will be photos as we go along. Im just not sure how long until we get started. We move out of our current house at the end of Feb and will move in with my mum and sister (which will be a test of the realtionship ). I also have a 16 month old daughter who is the light of our lives and a furchild who is 10 and has the run of the house. Once we are done, drive by's are welcome..... on the condition that I have more than an hours warning to make sure Im home and you stop in for a drink New project in the Hawkesbury 9Dec 29, 2011 2:52 pm Deal.
