Somehow I missed the update in September, I love the granite, looks amazing! I think once your floors are down it might soften it all up... So lucky to have such a great view whilst laid up huh! Getting back to a bit of mobility now and making some progress on the lawn, well most of the progress has been by my wife but I helped a bit. We put some edging in to try and tame the wild Kikuyu. Since so long had elapsed since the soil prep had been done the bentonite clay had locked up the soil pretty hard, so my wife hired another cultivator and re-cultivated the soil. I was envisioning a rough screed to knock it down a bit, but my wife took it as in "bowling green" standard. I got home Friday night to a perfect surface and one tired wife. Should all be finished tomorrow. In the end it hasn't been a cheap exercise to have a bit of lawn. With soil, bore, retic and grass we will be in for about $20K by the end. The shade house/fernery/cat run/spa house that is going to come off our bedroom. It is a timber structure. The roof will have shade cloth on. The walls are going to be lined with treated pine decking boards but fully painted. The boards will have a tiny gap between each of them. Most of the edge will be gardens around the edge planted out with shade loving plants. There will be a walkway down the middle and our spa tucked up in one corner. We had to build the base up which we retained with rocks (still have piles of them). Just got the frame up this weekend and will work on the rest from here. I'm thinking I want to put in 3 long skinny windows which sort of set the view as panorama style. I think I need to go to the salvage places and find 3 left over bits of glass to make it work. My uncles a glazier so he could probably cut the. Down for me if required. Managed to get more done this weekend. Finished off the timber work, my wife did all of the painting and I got the shade cloth on. Went to a local business that specialises in shade sails etc and they sold me some fire retardant shade cloth for the same price as what bunnings wanted for standard stuff. It's not fire proof but it means if it gets hit by embers it will self extinguish and not support a flame. Better than nothing. Pretty happy with the outcome. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Next job is the cladding. I was originally going to use pine decking boards but have since decided to go for a composite timber screening board. This one is made by Ekodeck and is about twice the price of pine, but we won't have to paint it which saves a weekend of labour. I don't recall seeing any pictures, would love to see some if you've got that far? I ran out of mesh so I need to get another sheet to fill in the windows and gate. The cladding has come out nicely and was easy to use. Re: Argyle WA - Rocky Hill OB 99Feb 13, 2014 1:00 am Agreed. It's already getting quite nippy here now but that looks fairly sheltered. Getting out of ours this morning at 6.30 was a bit chilly and I couldn't face a dip tonight with the cold wind blowing. Re: Argyle WA - Rocky Hill OB 100Feb 15, 2014 11:22 pm Hooray, got some planting done. The kids bathroom and other bits and pieces can now wait until this girls on the road, so this will be last update for a while. Thanks for sharing the journey.
