Not worth the paper it is written on!!! Re: Discount Card for OB's 3Jun 24, 2011 8:34 pm kayandandy It is such a useless card. Not worth the paper it is written on!!! kayandandy, Might be a good idea to elaborate, if you have a good reason. Re: Discount Card for OB's 4Jun 24, 2011 8:56 pm What you can buy and get a discount is very restricted and then when one qualifies for discount it is about one percent. I have found that it is cheaper to shop around as you are always more likely to find it cheaper than bunnings. Re: Discount Card for OB's 5Jun 24, 2011 9:27 pm There is also a trade account you can apply for. Need to spend 6k every 6 months so not hard. Get 30 days credit and discounts around 5% ( not on all items though). I find the 30 days credit best thing and can still do the pricematch deal https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=44762 My Owner builder journey extending a 1930's Bungalow Re: Discount Card for OB's 6Jun 24, 2011 10:11 pm kayandandy What you can buy and get a discount is very restricted and then when one qualifies for discount it is about one percent. Re: Discount Card for OB's 7Jun 26, 2011 10:50 pm Bunnings owner builder card = waste of time for me. So far on ~$1000 of transactions it's resulted in <$5 worth of discount. I don't even bother getting my card out anymore. Buying all my architraves and skirting from a timber supplier at half the price Bunnings charge will save me ~$250. Re: Discount Card for OB's 9Jun 28, 2011 2:24 am I tend to agree that it's a bit of a waste of time. I've managed to get a total of $4 discount so far after spending around $700 since getting the card, and thats been on quite a range of products including timber, verandah brackets, paint, builders bog, welding rods etc Our owner-builder journey - viewtopic.php?f=38&t=45187 Re: Discount Card for OB's 10Jun 28, 2011 3:49 pm Bunnings is not cheap to start with and the quality is pretty poor (in timber they get the rubbish, most of their fastener etc are cheap poorly made rubbish made with low grade materials). If you go to a trade supplier and tell them you are an owner builder they will more often than not do trade or significantly discounted price for you. I get trade price on everthing from my local builders supply, the local Mitre 10 and my my local timber mill (big savings buying direct from the mill). No card required. Steve Re: Discount Card for OB's 11Aug 26, 2011 5:10 pm if you are building in victoria there is a program called QTrust that you might want to have a look at. Bunnings might be a convience but if you want savings this might be a better path. Plus we all know when we go to bunnings you end up impulse buying, that have so much stuff there to waste money on. lots of cool un necessary ideas lol. Re: Discount Card for OB's 12Aug 26, 2011 5:35 pm No matter what hardware, I always ask for trade discount and most times get it. I used my computer and I printed up a fake builders card for my wallet in case they asked why I wanted discount, but only once had to use it. Most companies just give it when asked. Re: Discount Card for OB's 13Aug 31, 2011 9:25 pm i used the "we'll beat by 10% policy at bunnings today. I find thats hte best way to get a decent discount out of them. $4 out of $700 spent, doesnt even cover the hotdog and drink. BTW paid $46 for 15kg total coat lite, shelf price was $74. might buy me a westfarmers share with the $28 saved Re: Discount Card for OB's 14Jan 03, 2012 1:10 am Almost a waste of time. I've found the owner builder card gives you 10% off the crap with high margins. They give no discount on all the stuff you really need to build that you'd be better off getting from a good timber yard or 'real' hardware store. My local hardware gave me 10% off pretty much everything unless already discounted. Got them to quote up all the big stuff, structural pine, yellow tongue, hardwood & LVL timber etc. Came in very good on $ and good quality straight timber too. Re: Discount Card for OB's 15Jan 11, 2012 4:27 pm LOL Bunnings. Since receiving my OB card i have received a total discount of $2 and spent over 1k..... It is a joke, but every dollar saved is a dollar saved. I have spoken to a friend on the inside and they laughed when i told them about my card "there useless" quoted...... Colli (WA) offer a card but you have to guarantee a minimum 12 month spending... Worth considering if the "discount" is honest/fair unlike the competition.... |
