Mornin’ all
By way of quick introductions: just turned 50, pretty large renno’s on 3 of 4 homes we’ve owned over the last 25 years, sick to death of the car parks that roads on our respective trips to work have become, kids pretty much (!!) left home, wanting a tree change. (DH does not want a red sports car and a blonde, says he’s quite happy with the purple-haired model he has!!) We can lay bricks and I can drive a dingo, would never pay to have someone do the painting. Own ¾ of our house (bank owns the rest)
Our 3-5 year plan (just developed – but I suspect it’s been brewing for a while now) is to sell our place here in Sydney, get a transfer to our preferred location (I’m a high school D&T teacher) rent for a year in which time we’ll find land and build a kit home. Easy!
The hardest bit is trying to work out what it all might cost. We know the price of the kit home we like, and understand the “now double it” concept, and have trawled through these forums seeing info like ‘Mary saved $100k doing it herself.’ I know bingoshelly built her place for around $600 /m2 and that getting a builder (to do the lot) will be around $1000-1500m2.
However, I need to start at the bottom and that means footings/piers/slabs/floor etc. I consider myself a pretty good ‘googler’ but I’m damned if I can find anything that will give me a m2 rate for these so I can a)compare and b)start a budget which will lead to c)can we do this without having to go and visit one of those lovely financial institutions who are making huge profits at our expense.
Can anyone offer suggestons
Many thanks
