Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Mar 23, 2011 11:14 pm This is probably a silly thing to ask as in the scheme of things such a small amount of money but I think it's just in my nature I need to save money (Probably why we are OB'ing) Anyway our house plans are on A1 paper which at Officeworks is $2 odd to print each. I have 7 Pages so all up $14 each full set. Now I need to send out a heap of sets to Trades, suppliers etc for quotes and the like. So when I do that 20 or 30 times it adds up. So I am wondering if any of the wise heads on here know of a good value place to get A1 plans printed? Figure I will get 20 or 30 sets in one go and be done with it (Hopefully) Cheers https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=44762 My Owner builder journey extending a 1930's Bungalow Re: Printing plans 2Mar 23, 2011 11:18 pm The money is the least of your issues... just make sure they are all to scale as tradies like to do 'takeoffs' with a rule well in the concrete side of things anyway. Re: Printing plans 5Mar 24, 2011 2:25 pm The scale is the important thing. Usually all plans are done in A3 so the A1 has me a little baffled. Just do a quick check; if it's 200:1, then A3 will still work. Yeah definitely A1 at 100:1 (Lots of details on our plans), so dont want to scale down to A3 as will cause lots of problems for tradies. Anyway may have found a solution. A few companies on the East Coast do for about $1 a page. Which is pretty reasonable (Beats $2.20 a page at Officeworks when I may print 200 or so pages) So can either get from them and post or will try the Officeworks "Price Match Guarantee" as it's close to me. Thanks all for the input. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=44762 My Owner builder journey extending a 1930's Bungalow Re: Printing plans 7Mar 24, 2011 4:40 pm I would also recommend getting an electronic copy of all your plans. Our drafty gave us pdf's of all the plans. I've found that the majority of tradies are happy with me emailing the plans to them and it's so much easier to send them out to to a lot of companies for quotes. I think I've emailed somewhere in the vicinity of 55 companies/tradies for various quotes and so far I've only been asked by 4 tradies to post them hard copies. Cost us $16 per plan to get them laminated which I bauked at at the time but that was the best thing we ever did. They are left on site all the time, get scribbled on with whiteboard marker have been rained on, had cement slopped on them, and still going strong. We get plans all the time at work and A1 (at least) is very common I have to reduce them down to A3, which is a pain to line up correctly Some people may need the larger format plans but A4 or A3 is fine for us Re: Printing plans 10Mar 24, 2011 7:53 pm TamK Also I agree on the laminating tip! I'm doing leadlighting and although I ended up piecing together my A1 size design using A4 paper I should have just got it printed on A1 - didn't realise it was so cheap to be honest, the laminating would have been good too - I think Thanks!
