Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Mar 21, 2011 7:33 pm Just looking to send my plans to an Estimator and wondering if anyone has used or would recommend any firms? (I am in Perth so probably local is better) I am considering - West Coast Estimating - Alto Estimating If anyone has used either appreciate any feedback and or alternatives. I am not looking for prices on Fitout items but think this will be useful for quantities and ballpark tradie prices so I have something to work with (Instead of hoping I can afford all this, at least I'll know on paper I cant!) Anyway any ideas welcome https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=44762 My Owner builder journey extending a 1930's Bungalow Re: Building Estimators 2Mar 21, 2011 8:12 pm HI there We used West Coast Estimating. On some things I thought they were way out but actually it was my then PM had no flipping idea. The only time they have not been on the money is when I changed my mind and upgraded!!! There is no way I could have polished concrete for his estimation!!!!!!!!!! However even when he was not on the money it was always useful to have something to guide instead of going blindly in the dark. Since PM has gone I have used it religiously. I used it to order our bricks and we had exactly enough ... .and I mean exactly with a few to spare! HOpe this helps Kereth Re: Building Estimators 3Mar 21, 2011 11:40 pm I used Jason at west coast estimating. I've found his estimate pretty good. He is quite happy to chat with you. He happily said that most people will come in a little under his estimates. I think at time he errs on the side of caution. The less than standard your build is the more he probably plays it safe. Somethings (like $4k for kitchen appliances) were way under but all in all I'll probably only be 5% under his estimate. Will be going with Jason also. Most impressed he will come out on site to have a look and chat about what we are doing and what we are working with. Being ours is a reno / extension that will be great as not as easy to just work with plans Cheers https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=44762 My Owner builder journey extending a 1930's Bungalow I’m curious about how you went with this.
