Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Mar 15, 2011 3:10 pm I'm sorry if this is a really dumb question - but how do I work out what materials are needed? I still haven't figured out whether to OB or use a builder, and I had this (crazy) idea that I could get a rough estimate of pricing for the materials from building supplies places, seconds places etc, and figure out what would cost me, as opposed to what the builder will charge. Looking at the plans I can probably figure doors and windows out, and the engineers report has specified some things, but how do I work out the rest. Obviously if I do go with the builder, thats all his problem, but if I OB then I'll need to supply all the materials. I'm sure I could pay someone to work it all out for me - but if I do end up going with the builder then that will be wasted money. Sorry again for the dumb question Re: How to work out what materials needed 2Mar 15, 2011 5:09 pm Probably the best way is to get a professional estimate. Re: How to work out what materials needed 3Mar 18, 2011 7:02 pm Hi Sax. You would not have to worry about getting the materials as an OB anyway, most of the tradies you contract throughout the project would have supply the materials themselves apart from whatever that you going to do yourself then you have to shop around. I find googling a great help. Remember always obtain at least 2 quotes for everything you want to do. That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8622 in the stormwater pit or the drain? Those dont look like theyd fit in the drain.
