I came up with a very original plan on a blank sheet of paper, and am dealing with 3 project builders for quotes. Each has started at the same point, drafting up detailed drawings of my plan. Since the first detailed plans, I've made numerous changes we wanted, and we've instructed each of the builders on the same changes. SOME of these design changes resulted from practical advice from each of them to make an improvement, but by far most changes made are still 'our' ideas. They are all aware they are competing for the build against others. However on the plans Ive received from each, they all have their own copyright marked on them... advice? Occasionally (a couple of times) a building company has sued another building company (for commercial reasons) because they have copied ideas and tried to use the plans. The decisions I read had architects is this companies "admitting" they were instructed to copy other company's plans. It's quite interesting, but no need to go into here. Personally, if I want to build something I will, that's me. If you are worried that someone on this forum is going to say "hey look boss, they taken our plan - let's go after them for every penny" then proceed accordingly. It's just my op, i've seen a lot of people take the high road in this kind of topics on this forum, and I simply don't agree. A thankful person is a happy person. If you are OB then the onus is on you. My inlaws are currently designing their new home. We went with one builder who did up all plans etc before we pulled the plug. Then they approached a drafty who's exact words were "do not show me the plans, don't tell me how they designed the home - just tell me what rooms you want, what sizes, roughly where to situate them". That way if the original builder drives past sees the house being built and decides to research it both we and the new builder will be in the clear. Building is hard enough without worrying about possible legal action. Why take the risk? Some things are worth waiting for. Three options 1 Ask the liquidator 2 Find another PD customer and ask the source of their report 3 Pay for new report 3 12338 Hi, First of all, thank you to this community for sharing your thoughts and opinions.
