Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jan 01, 2011 3:01 am Well the last few weeks have been rather eventful and whilst I have attempted posting a number of times it alsways seemed to go wrong so I will give you a dot point breakdown of the events of our OB project. * Tramps have caused a lot damage to floor by spilling olive oil on. Onc is going to have to work miracles. Eventually got them removed by security company. * Job just seemed to be going soooo slowly but it is on the improve now ... thank goodness! * Got a little visit and a warning from Worksafe today as we were observed moving and rebuilding a tiny bit of scaffolding. It was a real bugger as we just needed to do one bit of work HOWEVER we have worked out that if we harness up all meets the regualtions. So please all other OBers let this be your warning. They are like cockroaches these guys - always bloody there! We were actually in the wrong place at the wrong time as there is a very large development being built and somebody complained about them and of course they are out there in a flash. My lovely carpenter leaves me but thankfully I have found an equally lovely bloke who I am just so delighted with. WE are nearly at lockup .... I am nearly dead! Happy new year. kay Re: New Year ..... 2Jan 01, 2011 7:47 am kayandandy * Got a little visit and a warning from Worksafe today as we were observed moving and rebuilding a tiny bit of scaffolding. I wouldn't wish that on anyone else to go through that ever....... just a tip you don't need to start a new thread for each aspect of your build use the edit button on your first post then click on adavance and you can edit the title with any updates Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: New Year ..... 3Jan 01, 2011 2:49 pm Hi Kay, pleased to hear that you have made some progress with all aspects of your build. You sound like you have had your fair share of setbacks, I guess it makes the progress even sweeter and the finished project will be well worth it. I have to agree with Pugs re worksafe. I know it was only a throw away line but construction is still one of the most dangerous jobs going around, and many, many people are killed every year from falls. I know I'm thankful that I don't have to work on two 44 gallon drums stacked on top of each other with a 6 metre plank between them any more, and I know my wife and children are as well. It can seem like it inhibits productivity but I'm sure the last thing anyone wants is to live in a house that someone had been killed or seriously maimed on during the build when it could have been avoided. I still want to get past and have another look at all the progress, yours is quite a special build. Hope it goes well for you in the new year, when are you hoping to be completed by? We have been so diligent (well to my knowledge of following it) and the issue was not that we were unsafe, just one of the guys didnt have a 'ticket' to erect scaffolding. We are going to hire a harness to finish the remaining work that needed a tiny bit of scaffolding and my carpenter tells me that while it meets worksafe ... he feels more unsafe! Hay ho! I just hope the lesson is there for others to not scrimp on worksafe because they are a minute around the corner. The development block that the guy was paying a visit to copped a fat fine because they had started using this great big drill thing (to do soakwells for an apartment block - so it was mega!) at 6am yesterday. No wonder people were **! When the guy got there there were a ton of other things wrong and they are now about 10k+ poorer! Chippy I have been wondering what a bloody mug I am doing this build and I certianly couldnt have done it without our carpenter. He has saved us from some serious disaster. Whilst I still love the house, it is just such a bastard to build and our dumb architect certianly didnt think anything through very carefully. For example we have stinger stairs for all three flights of stairs but once the scaffold is down and the stairs are put in we have no access to the top two floors. More money! Just dumb things that had I known (!!!!) I certianly would have changed. However it is a beautiful home and the views are to die for. The apartment is spectacular and we are going to fit it out so that we will live there one day. Anyway lunch is served k Re: New Year ..... 5Jan 01, 2011 8:01 pm kayandandy ... I have been wondering what a bloody mug I am doing this build ... k Don't let it get you down! I felt like that more times than I can count. Now, when it's all behind me (well, almost) and I'm living in a nice and comfy home, I don't feel like a mug anymore!
