Re: Schloss am Meer .... our castle that is costing a BOMB!! 23Sep 29, 2010 8:01 pm Today I found out I had to crane bricks up onto the second floor! Okay so no probs ... get a crane, chuck the guy a few greens ones and happy larry!!! Oooohhhhhhh nooooooo - flipping $1800 later. To be fair this is the MOST it can cost but me thinks that is a bloody nuff! Ouch!!!!! Of course hubby still on the ground from shock. Good thing however is we can build our whole upper frame from wood, no steel so hopefully that will bring things in!!!! I HOPE!!!!!! On the plus side, I paid half for my bath today and it looks like I could get one done and dusted ... hold thumbs! kay Re: Schloss am Meer .... our castle by the sea! 24Sep 29, 2010 10:21 pm I know ALL about unexpected costs popping up Kay . We didn't have scaffolding so that saved us $$$(or safety rails even though they should have been used for the roofing) RF Build: viewtopic.php?f=38&t=34534 Flooring: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=39733 Chat: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=53303 Re: Schloss am Meer .... our castle by the sea! 30Oct 02, 2010 11:36 pm WEll in total I have spent the best part of eleven hours in Tradelink trying to sort out my plumbing requirements! to add insult to injury I have ended up choosing the same for all the bathrooms! Eleven hours to do that! We have gone for wall hung toilets and while I was in there the state manager for a toilet company comes in. I pick his brains about these wall hung toilets as it is a bloody complicated business and to cut a long story short I take him down to the house, he measures up and I order his toilet (which was a lot more expensive than the others!!) The exciting bit is that he wants to come back and take photos of the bathroom when it is done for marketing purposes! How cool is that! I am sooooo happy with all my choices for the house so far .... but it is bloody hard work! BLOODY huge! 32Oct 25, 2010 11:31 pm So looking at plans gives one an idea but boy oh boy the reality is quite different!!!! I venture up to the second floor the other day and I nearly die ... I have to clean all of that ... imflippingpossible! but boy oh boy with views to die for. It is gorgeous. I am soooo happy, so excited and sooooooooooooo impatient! Our good news is that we now have someone working fulltime to do the caarpentry and also be the eyes and ears of the building site. At least he can see what is going on and make sure we keep moving as this has been my biggest frustration, the time. We are now completing the second floor and plastering internally is commencing downstairs. It looks amazing to say the least. The third floor will be started in the next few days so we should really get a sense of how bloody huge this house really is. I have sorted cladding and eaves stuff - all of which does not need painting and offers further insulation. Kitchen nearly sorted, laundry sorted. Bathroom stuff chosen for downstairs. Windows arrived but yet to unpack and install. All in all progressing well but needing it to hurry up. I am going MAD!!!!! k Re: Schloss am Meer .... our castle by the sea! 33Oct 26, 2010 1:21 pm Pics...we need pics Please. Looking forward to the pics too Re: Schloss am Meer .... our castle by the sea! 36Oct 28, 2010 9:54 pm Can't believe it took me this long to find your thread K! I've been missing out on all the action Wish I'd seen the floor plan before we came over to have a look, would have been able to visualise it better. Have you got any links on your polished plaster? and that rug link you promised me Can't wait to see the progress! Re: Schloss am Meer .... disaster diversion! 37Oct 29, 2010 12:39 am OMG it is all happening in this neck of the wood. For a while I have been somewhat concerned as to how slow things are going and how reluctant our project manager was to visit the site. It was getting increasingly frustrating and I nearly went doolally at the suspended slab stage. I mean it took six flipping weeks to complete formwork because he wasnt top of the job. My patience was SEVERELY tested but I kept working with it. Anyway Lady Luck was on my side and a friend became available to complete our loft and pretty much come to site for three months. I bit his hand off. He started a week earlier than we thought was needed and and thank goodness he did. By the second day I was sick ... so many stuff ups and a PM who still wouldnt come to site! So it was arranged for mate to have a meeting with engineer. Well a good thing he did. Lintels were incorrectly ordered or not ordered at all. The incorrect one being the biggest issue as it is one of the main support points for the loft. Hell I was stumped for words here and feeling somewhat silly as I should have double checked EVERYTHING. It should be noted that we were paying a VERY generous PM fee! So today he seemed reluctant to come to site and explained that I felt we needed someone on site and maybe it wasnt the right time for him to undertake a task like this. So in a day I sorted out our f%$£ ups (with help ) and got myself a new site manager!!!!!!!!! Boy oh boy this baby is stressed. all should be back on track soon k Re: Schloss am Meer .... our castle by the sea! 38Oct 29, 2010 8:45 pm You are doing well not to have gone barmy already K. I have been through some similar levels of stress and I have not coped nearly as well as you seem to be. RF was not a nice gal for a while there. We keep finding major f$&@ ups! Some of the drawings jut don't make sense .... Madness to say the least. On two separate drawings we have different roof . Lots of deep breaths and seeing the glass half full is getting me through ..... But it is so bad! Re: Schloss am Meer .... our castle by the sea! 40Oct 29, 2010 11:58 pm You know K if you had a builder you would possibly never know the mistakes were there once you moved intent all finished, I'm sure they all make mistakes of some sort, just magnified for you because you have to deal with it first-hand. Must be so frustrating, but it's going to be soooo worth it in the end! The fastest thing a builder will do is bank your cheque, those systems work perfectly with lightning speed, everything else is slow burn. Just the way it is. 1 8736 Can someone please offer some advice? Im DESPERATE. Because I'm completely and utterly exhausted. How long are variations taking with other companies at the moment?
