Arrived at site today to find two of my guys wondering around the site looking at very strange things. NOw if you let me digress and take you back a few days when I went after work to check the site and found our newly installed garage open. Now I thought it strange but never having had a garage door installed I thought it was the way it was done. I went into the house and found the radio on. Thought it was strange but my site manager is away and thought it was somthing the boys had overlooked. Roll on the following morning and I find a window on th etop floor wide open. Now I was peeved because it had rained heavily the night before and the top window was wide open. Spoke to the boys that morning and they swore blind they had left the garage door shut, turned the music on and closed the window. Oh well, what could I do. So today as they were looking for tools they found that numerous tools were missing. The more they looked for the more was missing. the person who did it must have been hungry as there was a brownie slice and half a brownie slice which was gone. Well we then spent the best part of an hour trying to work out how the bloody hell they got in. Finally worked out that if the garage door wasnt plugged in, they could get in the garage and go through the side entrance. This is locked but it is not a serious lock. So mystery over. Now I have to try and work out what we can do about these tools. Thankfully nothing else was taken as all the cabinets are in, the kitchen appliances upstairs and there are alll the light fittings in there. Mmmmm bastards. Is there anything on the Owner builder ride we havent experienced????????? Re: Schloss am Meer .... break in at site. 203Jun 04, 2011 7:05 am That is just SH1TE Kay. I just don't understand people doing this, I really don't. Look at the bright side Kay, your appliances and fittings are still there and the jokers haven't trashed the place. Quote: Is there anything on the Owner builder ride we havent experienced????????? Yes! plenty!! For example, you haven't experienced a crooked tradie refusing to fulfill his contract, trying to beat you up and trying to steal from you. His work sucks too. Plenty other disasters, from what I hear. What really counts, you're almost there! My father rode a camel, I drive a car, my son flies in a jetliner, his son will ride a camel.Saudi saying Re: Schloss am Meer .... break in at site. 205Jun 04, 2011 12:20 pm All I can say is sooo glad they didn't take that amazing bath! (well, they'd need to be pretty well prepared to get it out anyway- I have no idea how you got it up there?!?). Hope that's the last of the dramas x Re: Schloss am Meer .... break in at site. 206Jun 04, 2011 2:48 pm So sorry to hear about your break in! It's not uncommon. Does your builder insurance cover theft and if so does it extend to tools or just materials, fixtures and appliances? Just a thought. You are not alone with experiencing building theft. I know of 2 relatives who have built in the last 5 years in the Cockburn area and both homes were broken into after lock up. From one home they stole tools and from the other they stole the 2 person spa from the ensuite and pulled copper piping out of the walls in the bathrooms! Good luck with the rest of your build - I am sure it will be much smoother sailing from here on in xx Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere. —Albert Einstein Re: Schloss am Meer .... break in at site. 207Jun 04, 2011 8:22 pm What a bummer Kay but so glad that no serious damage done to the house. The tradies should have taken their tools home really and they cant blame you for that. Bit silly to leave them on site especially smaller tools. Not sure of the value stolen but I know the QBE O/B insurance policy covers tools up to $2000 (Still have to pay the excess though) Either way worth reporting it to the COps just so they are aware of it if nothing else It's probably too late for you now but if you are not moving in for a while put in a few motion sensors hooked up to a Siren instead of a light. It will scare the S#!t out of anyone walking in there at nightime and only costs a few $$. Can just plug it into a power point and hang it wherever you like. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=44762 My Owner builder journey extending a 1930's Bungalow Re: Schloss am Meer .... break in at site. 208Jun 05, 2011 11:33 am omg kay you poor thing bloody bastards hope they injure themselves using their new found hot stuff. you shouldnt be responsible for the tradies tools they shouldnt have left them in the 1st place. hope you can move in soon to protect everything so sorry my dear friend xxxxx stay safe happy building Re: Schloss am Meer .... break in at site. 209Jun 05, 2011 7:24 pm Thanks guys. Am starting to think it was an internal job as the house is like fort bloody knox. We have had heaps of trouble with our crappy cornice guy and he has been called back a few times. I wasnt happy to pay him until he was done. I know he was short of money. I dont think the tools will be used, but rather sitting in some cash converters! Ho hum the show must go on. Rob we will be installing those things this week. Love the idea of scaring the bastards away with sirens!!!! Re: Schloss am Meer .... break in at site. 210Jun 05, 2011 7:41 pm I was going to say- it must have been day time for them to have been walking around eating, playing music and having the window open... sounds like they were just walking around doing their thing. Re: Schloss am Meer .... break in at site. 211Jun 08, 2011 11:54 am Aww Kay - you poor thing. I cant beleive this has happened to you.... Boy we started eons before you. Looking forward to some pics! I have to say that a little part of me is envious of those folks that build with a builder and move in to a completed house ... although i like knowing that i have been part of every bloody decision!!!!!!! I think we have to meet and have a drink to celebrate our achievements!!!!! k Re: Schloss am Meer .... two weeks til move in! 218Jun 29, 2011 12:29 am I'm having July off work (or as much as possible) to knock off the rest of the work and watch the greatest sporting event on the planet! All the wet areas are finished. I just need to do my kitchen and shelving in the robes. Then put in my timber floors and built in cupboards in family, study and theatre. Then the myriad of other little bits and pieces. I wanted the house completey finished before we moved in but my wife can hardly contain herself, so as soon as the inside and driveway is done then we will move in. I can see you know drill in one hand, cupboard in another eyes glued to the telly!!!! I cant believe how quick you have gone. The final run is really really exciting! A plan all coming together!!!!!!!! What I love most is that the hiccups will be over soon!!!!! At least when I move in I will not have to cowtail to one more bloody person!!! I am over it!
