Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Mar 07, 2009 12:27 pm Have been hanging around for a while watching everyones builds and looks like our turn as finally come. Our building permit has arrived so looks like our start date will be in a couple of weeks. My husband is a plumber and we will be contracting out any work that he can't do to other tradies. Have attached our plan that we developed ourselves. Have kept the structure quite simple so that we can spend extra money on the inside ie: stone benchtops, freestanding bath.

We are putting the house 100m into the block and the second pic is where the shed will be going, have been told that its the most important part of the whole project So fingers crossed all goes smoothly, just can't wait to actually do something with the block. Cheers, Kate Re: OB in Victoria - Nearly Done!! 2Mar 07, 2009 2:13 pm congrats kate and hubby the house is massive so is your block love the mountain views thought it was pyramid hill for a moment...anyway keep the updates coming and good luck happy building cheers shelley Re: OB in Victoria - Nearly Done!! 3Mar 08, 2009 2:20 pm Congrats! Plans look great, 3D drawings are so cool! How did you do that? Built the Atlantique 37 Mk2 with Carlisle Homes - WE'RE IN!! Shelley - I really enjoy watching the progress of your build, you deserve a medal at the end of it for all the work you have put in. The block and house are quite big but is actually down scaled from our original plans. We wanted to buy about 30 acres out of town but sooo expensive so settled for 2 acres inside the town zone. I do wonder at times how the hell im going to clean the house but should be better than our rental at the moment that has around 30 squares of living! Salt & Pepper - When I say we developed the plans ourselves it was in conjuction with a building designer so he did up the 3D images for us. Helped me to understand how everything was going to fit in together as i so have no imagination Re: OB in Victoria - Nearly Done!! 5Mar 11, 2009 6:41 pm Congrats Katie
I LOVE your views! Just spectacular. Where are you? Re: OB in Victoria - Nearly Done!! 6Mar 13, 2009 1:31 pm Loretta, the block is situated in Dunkeld at the base of the grampians in Western Victoria. Can't wait to sit back in the alfresco area watching the sunset The concreter is coming the week before easter so the slab isn't far away. can't wait to actually see some action rather than all the boring, but important, paperwork that goes on just to get to this point. Re: OB in Victoria - Nearly Done!! 7Mar 16, 2009 9:44 pm thanks for sharing. Hope everything go well. Do update and keep us posted. OB in Victoria - We have action! 8Apr 11, 2009 11:21 pm We have finally started our house The concreters dug the trenches and did the blindings on wednesday (no idea what that meant until DH explained!) and they will be back next week to do the boxing for the slab. DH also dug the trench and ran the water pipe from the front of the block to the slab for the concreters to use. It was just so exciting to actually see something being done on our block and hubbie just rolled his eyes when I was standing where each room will eventually be, imagining the views and space. Sorry about first lot of pics but taken on the mobile Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: OB in Victoria - We have action! 9Apr 12, 2009 6:46 am Fantastic. LaFond-Lewis Re: OB in Victoria - We have action! 12Apr 23, 2009 9:52 pm Well I know I shouldn't be complaining as I know there is a drought and all that going on but does it really need to rain so much this weekend coming up We had planned to do the underslab drainage and dig the septic tank pit this weekend but with the weather headed our way we have had to give it a miss. Oh well the joys of trying to get a slab down this time of year. Have some more photos of the underneath work of the slab and the most important thing "the toilet" Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: OB in Victoria - Damn weather!! 13Apr 23, 2009 11:46 pm hey marge the rains are here lol yep as i type its raining in the mallee dont worry im sure it will dissapear as quick as it came good luck hun stay safe happy building Re: OB in Victoria - Damn weather!! 14Apr 24, 2009 7:05 am Is there a roof on that toilet? Our plumber is going to connect a toilet directly onto the sewer for use as a site toilet, but clearly I am going to have to build something like you've got around it! JB Re: OB in Victoria - Damn weather!! 15Apr 24, 2009 11:09 am JB: haven't put a roof on the toilet yet and may not, will see how we go. We thought that if its raining there probably wont be any tradies there anyway and we have the toilet paper in a sealed bucket so it wont get wet. We just bought a 20 litre porta loo for $120 from a camping store until we get the septic up and running. Thought it would be handy to have the porta loo for camping later on Re: OB in Victoria - Slowly moving along 16May 04, 2009 9:08 pm Well we are slowly moving along. After the awful weather the other weekend we managed to get most of the underslab drainage done over the weekend. Was quite interesting playing apprentice plumber but hubbie was very patient. Felt fantastic to be working on the house ourselves, very rewarding work Hubbie is finishing off the drainage this weekend and then the reo and the boxing will be done. Picked up the floor heating last weekend which gets clipped onto the reo when it is in place. Can't wait to have warm tiles in winter Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: OB in Victoria - Floor heating connected 17May 24, 2009 9:22 pm The floor heating is finally connected and slab should be poured this week if the weather stays nice. It has taken awhile to get to this point mainly due to a couple of weekends of bad weather and hubbie doing the plumbing only on the weekends. Have attached a couple of photos of the floor heating half done, can't wait to have warm tiles in winter Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: OB in Victoria - Floor heating connected 18May 24, 2009 10:16 pm wow katie looking good wish my hubby was a plumber would make things a lot cheaper lol stay safe happy building Re: OB in Victoria - Floor heating connected 19May 25, 2009 10:21 am Hi Katie, Love the floor heating, we are intending on doing the same with our house, did you guys just zip tyre it to the steel work? was there any problem with walking on the steel while laying the heating wire?. Cheers Waz Re: OB in Victoria - Floor heating connected 20May 25, 2009 5:02 pm Thanks guys. The pipe was zip tied onto the reo and the guys just walked on top of the steel. Sounded like it was quite awkard to do, especially making sure they didn't fall through. The floor heating is actually hydronic so will have heated water running through the pipes. Alot more economical to run than the electric type. We can also zone of different areas which will be handy. Also we put less coils in the bedrooms as we dont like hot bedrooms. I think I jinxed myself last night about wanting good weather as we have had 30mm of rain today so looks like the concreting will not be in the next couple of days.
