Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Aug 18, 2010 6:42 pm We are currently building a two story house on south side of Brisbane. The builders gone under a few weeks ago. We are currently at the frame stage. I heard there will a long pain journey to go through BSA and claim the insurance, so I'm thinking of getting an OB license (after going through the pain with the previous builder I lost confidence in builders). I would like to use an estimator or project manager to finish the remaining work. Does anyone want to recommend estimator/project manager in Brisbane? How much do they normally charge? I can't help with regards to recommending anyone, BUT I will say that going with an estimator and a project manager is an excellent idea. I didn't even know professional estimations for OBs existed when we started and our costs are going up and up. I am also the project manager and it is very hard going especially if you work/have family etc. My DH works shift work and we have 5 kids so it can be stressful at times. We are OBing but have a project manager and had a professional estimation done too. Our project manager is our architect and it has been a very pleasant experience to date! I am as hands on as I can be and ask lots of questions but essentially he has all the skills so kind of leave the business to him. I havent stepped back entirely as I have found loads of the trades and get things moving when they stagnate ... but I really enjoy working with people so we actually make a good team. Apologies that I cant recomend anyone in Brisbane as we are in Perth! Good luck. If you need to pay for a project manager you would be well advised to just engage a builder who would take full responsibility for the build.
