Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: Where can i buy reasonable ply wood? 22Apr 30, 2011 1:16 pm Sorry I don't have any info about cheap ply, but I do have an interest in this topic. We also have a concrete pad and were planning on putting solid jarrah floorboards on battens on the concrete. The old house that we're currently living in has the original beautiful jarrah floorboards (the only nice thing about this dump) and when it comes time to demolish we were hoping that we could pull up the floor boards without damaging them too much and re-use them in the bedrooms of our new house. We think they're 19mm thick, and they're 105mm wide so we were hoping to get matching sized solid jarrah boards for the rest of the house. We really like the feel of boards on battens (nice and springy, not so hard on the back) but we didn't know that there was a minimum thickness that the battens had to be. We had (maybe stupidly) assumed that we could put 5-10mm thick battens down, but what is the minimum thickness that the battens have to be under 19mm thick boards? We will have to suss all this out before we start tiling so we can get the wet area floors at the right height. It can't go any thinner since it's just short battens. Some people go thicker if they have the height. BTW, long time ago I read that some plywood is prone to having empty pockets and other structural issues. However, I don't know how can you know what to stay away from. I suppose buying a locally made product from a reputable manufacturer would be the go (but then again, what's reputable these days and how can one be sure ). Re: Where can i buy reasonable ply wood? 25May 01, 2011 11:05 am Ok back on the Topic - for "Cheap Plywood" As this is for under floor and wont be seen, keep an eye out for companies that sell the Cover sheets from packs. What happens is the Top and Bottom sheet get are sacrificed as they can get slightly damaged in transit, usually a knick from the strapping used to tie them together or small marks etc. Anyway still very usable for what you want. I know in Perth I have seen these advertised for $10 a sheet in the local Classifieds from time to time. Companies that often sell this are Larger Cabinet making firms who buy sheets in the hundreds so look around your area for that, and make a few phone calls asking if the sell "Cover Sheets" from packs Good luck https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=44762 My Owner builder journey extending a 1930's Bungalow Re: Where can i buy reasonable ply wood? 26May 25, 2011 4:56 pm Boral have recycled and off cuts going pretty cheap - if you are laying flooring over the top I guess it doesnt matter if they are a bit crappy looking. Re: Where can i buy reasonable ply wood? 27May 25, 2011 9:08 pm Is it DD structuralwood or something else? Seems good to me. I've been told $4-5k/sqm is reasonable in Perth. 2 11132 We are tossing up between a Jarrahdale radiant wood fire (the Pioneer) and a convection wood fire (Innovator or Countryman) but cannot decide on which type of wood fire is… 0 5247 yeah i couldnt picture it issue either, but i could clearly picture what they were doing wrong haha 2 5265 |
