We are going to build soon, maybe O/B, and so I've started to price stuff. What an eye opener.
We asked the price on some bricks from one of the companies and was told $470 per thousand. So we factored that in, but when we went back for a second look new salesperson told us the bricks were $670 per thousand for O/B.
Seems like the first time we'd been given the price that the builders get, by mistake.
What a difference. Seems to me that OBs are paying top dollar because they don't guarantee repeat business. I haven't checked yet but I'll bet that goes for all materials. From reading other posts, also seems like "discount cards" from the big suppliers are a bit of a joke, eg nothing to 5%.
I've been a member of a couple of non-building professional associations and know that the power of numbers can get a pretty good deal on consumer items. Has anyone thought of doing the same for OBs ?
Interested in what other OBs think / have done re this pricing stuff.
