Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Apr 25, 2010 7:39 pm Hi all, All new constructions in Victoria require either "A rainwater tank connected to all sanitary flushing systems OR a solar water heater system" I do NOT want either, as I have calculated the "TCO" and the figures don't add up (I guess this is why this code is not mandated in all other states) i.e. it is cheaper to use mains water & gas instant than to install either (over TCO) Has anyone been able to get an exemption? (i.e. If the design of my home is 6 stars or something else...) --------------------------------------------- Building Commission PracticeNotes2008-551.pdf 2.1.1 New Class 1 Buildings – options for compliance (a) DTS provisions Under the DTS provisions of the BCA, new Class 1 buildings are required to comply with the acceptable construction practice or manuals in Part 3.12 ... 2.2 Rainwater tanks and solar hot water heater systems Both the DTS and the Verification Method require that new Class 1 buildings also require1: (i) A rainwater tank connected to all sanitary flushing systems; OR (ii) A solar water heater system In either case, documentation must be provided to the Relevant Building Surveyor (RBS) to ensure compliance --------------------------------------------- Cheers Re: Anyone get an exemption for the BCA Req' RainW Tank / So 2Apr 26, 2010 2:35 am good luck getting around this rule we tried but to no avail so we chose the cheaper option of getting the tank to flush the toilets.the worse part is as a new dwelling there is no grant so solar hot water runs into 5-7 grand which really bites would love to know how you go as we still havnt got to that stage yet and if theres a loophole that would be great gl stay safe happy building Re: Anyone get an exemption for the BCA Req' RainW Tank / So 3Apr 26, 2010 8:22 am Both wwater and electricity remain too cheap in Victoria to make it economically viable for either system. You will just need to wait until the costs of the Desal Plant are added to your water bill. It will get loser to viable. Cheers the exemption applies only to your principal place of residence - so you must live in it. The 200 days is continuous. You also have to apply for the exemption. 2 13304 18 90369 From what I know about water tanks (I've been working with a client on them for a few years now) is this - The concrete can last a lifetime if they don't crack for some… 2 10523 |
