Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Apr 08, 2010 2:24 pm Im kind of getting tired of ringing up places and getting nowhere so Im hoping if I get some recommendations, I may be more likely to actually get a quote So does anyone have an excavating companies they could recommend? I need a site cut as well as strip footings dug. Im happy for simply excavating, or companies that do concrete as well. Melbourne 3Apr 08, 2010 2:40 pm Aaah borg, you have no idea what we're going through with our footings We want to raise the house but because our garage is on the boundary, the garage wall cannot be more than 3m. Designer couldnt work out a way to keep the garage wall at 3m and raise the house So we've decided that from the garage slab, we're going to try and get one step in to the house, and dig under (site cut) to give us our access underneath. Does that make sense? Its basically a whole lot of mucking around *sigh* Ive only had one company quote us for the foundations which includes site cut, strip footings, concrete allowance of 60cubic meters (but not including ligs) but my good old Cuz thinks its too much (he was quoted too by the same company). Problem is, I cant get another quote from anyone Contacted a concreter, but he doesnt have an excavator rec so Im hoping he'll quote and then I can get a seperate excavator rec and see how that works out. Melbourne 5Apr 08, 2010 2:58 pm I probably dont know what your going through the the problem, and not you are making my head go all funny as i try to work out what your doing. Not too sure why you couldn't just put more steps going into the house or even get your neighbour to sign if you wanted to go ver the 3meters. I guess there is probably good reasons and no need to explain it here. I hope you sort it all out. Re: Excavator company rec? Melbourne 6Apr 08, 2010 3:01 pm Something about the roof not working out We didnt really understand either, but figured we'd rather do it this way then wait for the designer to work it out which would have taken another year probably Thanks for the luck! Melbourne 7Apr 09, 2010 1:32 am hey bam sorry to hear of your tradie problems i guess melb is too busy with all the work around. this may sound weird but try tradies in ballarat and bendigo they are less busy and are used to travelling. we got quotes from both places and found they were willing to travel and it turned out they were cheaper then most anyway.we are 200 kms from ballarat and 134kms from bendigo so try yellow pages for both regional centres its worth a shot. cheers shelley stay safe happy building Re: Excavator company rec?
