Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a building surveyor for the City of Whittlesea? And if I could know what your approx turn around time was for your Building Permit?
Thankyou!

Re: Building Surveyor - City of Whittlesea 3Feb 24, 2010 8:28 pm Hey there mummy! If you recall I said I would probably pick the private company to do my surveying, Well I have done so. I was put off by everyone telling me that they (Whittlesea) would take ages to perform the task. Also When I rang them to discuss, a Surveyor I spoke to really put me off. His attititude mirrored what other's had been saying, that they cannot be stuffed. To top it off, amongst the charges, dispersments, GSTs ontop of taxes etc, they would impose an 'Asset protection levy' (yeah, love that word) of almost $200.00. When inquiring what that meant, I was told it was in case we damaged footpaths, crossovers etc... I have no problem with that, mentioning to him that I assumed it would then be refunded if nothing was damaged?... Response was no !! I told him it sounded like a money grab, he became typically defensive and rude, I hung up and called the private guys within 5 minutes. Happy to share the names. I'm paying more than Whittlesea or Banyule have quoted, but in this case I don't care. Let me know Plans Done Feb 2010 Permit Done 23 April. Set out Done. Scrape and Excavations Done. Re: Building Surveyor - City of Whittlesea 4Feb 24, 2010 8:42 pm Hey there! I guess they dont need to rely on manners because they assume most people either arent in a rush, or dont want to pay the extra As for the levy, if you do no damage then how can they keep it?! One of the Banyule places quoted me a fortune! I have a few others to ring tomorrow, so share with me, share with me! We're practically up to the same thing, will work in both our favours me thinks!! Re: Building Surveyor - City of Whittlesea 5Feb 24, 2010 10:30 pm I would be interested to know their prices and the services they offer. (PM me if necessary) As a newly licenced site supervisor (mainly for my own home) I have been considering helping other owner builders in SA. Re: Building Surveyor - City of Whittlesea 6Feb 25, 2010 1:25 pm ^ It seems as though they base it on a percentage of the house construction price. I can probably work out the range of percentages for you, although I wont have time until tomorrow. Re: Building Surveyor - City of Whittlesea 8Feb 26, 2010 10:32 pm Bam, Will pm you the details of mine, but there is a disclaimer with it... Hills Guy, in the northern Subs of Melbourne, I was quoted the following ( dare say Bam will have similar) For an approx build cost of $300k - Quote Total- $1850 (ish). So, $1400 ish, is the inspection fee and about a million 'Levi's thrown in, including stamp duties, lodgments, and of course GST. Then add .16% of the approx build cost - Cant remember what fee or tax this was, but it was about $460.00 Hope this helps Plans Done Feb 2010 Permit Done 23 April. Set out Done. Re: Building Surveyor - City of Whittlesea 9Mar 02, 2010 6:23 pm TDS For an approx build cost of $300k - Quote Total- $1850 (ish). Mine was about the same with the breakdowns you mentioned. I won't recommend him though as he was hard to get a hold of a lot of the time, even though he was extremely thorough when it counted.
