Windows are generally measured after the frame is up because they rarely get the openings and rake angles correct in the build. It's fairly straight forward, but not very popular. Cheaper if you allow studs between windows @ 2m intervals. Ed "ECOECO" At 'EcoEco', we design windows, we design the best windows, we do it for you, so that when you’re happy we are happy. We are working through some concept plans with our building designer now. We would like to have raked ceilings and clerestory windows in the main open plan living area of the extension to catch Winter sun. Has anyone done anything similar before? What design and construction considerations did you need to make? Did you require a structural engineer for the roof? Any other tips or suggestions in relation to raked ceilings and clerestory windows much appreciated. Thanks - Craig Re: New OB - Raked Ceilings & Clerestory Windows 3Feb 08, 2010 10:56 pm Hi zander 5985, yes i've just completed a building with raked ceiling (with cathederal lower section) & apex windows each end to let in winter sun ( plus bay windows to do same) - the final result is wonderful BUT..... building the rake & cathederal was very, very tricky & very expensive compared to straight rake. yes we had extra engineering design work as end of roof frames landed over sliding door area. the insulation of the ceiling was very interesting but has worked very well. if u want u can see the build on page 3 of this forum under heading "our last o/build & still great fun".... the only thing we regret is NOT making the apex windows a lot bigger!!!! gee Eco Ed with an offer like urs i feel like doing a reno & using those beaut windows of urs as u know i had a hastle or 2 with our apex windows, but we love the result - should have been a bit bolder & made them bigger - but theres not going to be a next time so we r just going to enjoy it all....cheers tony Re: New OB - Raked Ceilings & Clerestory Windows 4Feb 09, 2010 7:52 am FYI... the date stuff up on the forum, caused my reply to precede the original post...
