Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jan 16, 2010 3:11 pm Hi all and happy new year I would like to excavate a basement under my home for the dual purpose of extra storage and a games room for my son The terrace was built in the mid 20's and has extremely thick brick side walls (has cavity). About two foot deep on each side of the building and it is a narrow but long two storey block (14 by 55 feet). I have seen Sydney water digging the street and the geology appears to be sandstone after digging 4 or 5 feet Before engaging professionals I thought I ask here for any advice or knowledge that can be given. My immediate questions are what kind of reinforcing I would need, how deep could I dig the basement and where can i get information on the type of foundations and construction for a building like mine built in the mid 20’s Cheers and looking forward to your comments.
