Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jan 11, 2010 9:05 pm As above, we are finding some pool quotes we have received absolutely ridiculous and everyone is telling us to go owner builder on our swimming pool but as it is our first build (we have a builder doing the house separately) we are a little unsure because of potential risks etc. People are saying we could save tens of thousands. . . so it is tempting . . . Have you OB your inground pool? What were the upsides/downsides? Did you end up saving as much as you thought? Would you do it again?? Any tips? Thanks so so so much for any input at all Re: Owner Builder for Pool - Would you/have you/would you again? 2Jan 11, 2010 11:51 pm concrete or fibreglass? We recently had a pool constructed by a smaller pool company. At first we were daunted by the costs quoted by some "larger" pool companies who didn't include everything in their costs. Have you gotten some quotes from smaller companies? you might find yourself surprised. We asked a few companies what can you do for us with this kind of money and they drew up plans etc. I think personally i would be more comfortable going owner builder with a fibreglass pool myself. My girlfriend did her fibreglass one OB, and was swimming in it before ours was finished. (much shorter time frame) Good luck with it, i don't know if i have helped much? Re: Owner Builder for Pool - Would you/have you/would you again? 8Jan 18, 2010 5:47 am Thanks everyone, ours has to be concrete due to a few reasons but we are really leaning to OB as our quotes have been $80-100k and various people have told us it should cost us half that! Our house builder and certifier will be there throughout the process so it is very tempting .... Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
