Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum Re: House Numbers 3Jan 06, 2010 7:07 pm Where I am living now we are 134-148 up the entire street. Elsewhere I have a friend whos numbers are based on house distance from the road but don't know anyone else like that. Our new land is like where we currently are 23-34 for example Re: House Numbers 4Jan 06, 2010 7:52 pm Our no. is as Dirk has said, distance from nearest intersection - 'rural numbering system'. You will find that you cannot choose your no. whether this system applies or not - your local council will allocate your number. Life's too short too drink bad wine Re: House Numbers 5Jan 07, 2010 4:03 pm In Victoria, the Rural Addressing Project was a State Government initiative to accurately number rural properties - remove RSDs, RMBs etc. The Department of Sustainability and Environment worked in partnership with local governments to name roads, allocate rural road numbers and clearly number property entrances. The aim of the project was to give every rural occupied property a unique address, making it easy to identify and locate. Rural addressing was only considered complete when: The RRN was allocated and the number installed at the property entrance The rural address was adopted into Councils property system as the definitive address for each property Each property owner was formally notified of their new rural address (i.e. Rural road number/road name/locality) Councils are now maintaining and extending the rural addressing framework to accommodate new subdivisions. Accordingly, any questions you may have about rural addressing should now be directed to your local Council. The benefits of a rural address: Rural road numbers benefit residents and rural communities in a number of ways: quick identification of properties for emergency services; an easy way for visitors to find properties; efficient delivery and pick-up services; and improved services from local government, power, gas, water and telephone utilities. The number is determined by the distance of each property entrance from the start of the road. The number is equal to the number of metres along the road the property is located, divided by ten. If your property is 870 metres (0.87 km) from the beginning of the road, then your property number will be 87. The number is rounded down so that odd numbers are on the left side of the road and even numbers on the right as you progress from the start of the road. Can you tell that I work for a Council ?
