Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Dec 24, 2009 5:28 pm Hi Everyone, Just recently found this site, it's absolutely fabulous. So fab, it has converted me from using a spec builder to owner builder - mad or what. When I say owner builder I mean we will employ all trades people to build the house for us. My husband will complete alot of the inside jobs when the house is built - shelving in cupboards, tiling of wet areas etc. Any advice from all you experts would be greatly appreciated. If we intend to use trades people for most of the build is there still a big saving to be made. The block is a 13 acre rural block, we have a 1200m building envelope. Looking forward to lots of input from you all. Cheers. Re: New OB - All advice like where do we start 2Dec 27, 2009 12:39 pm Hi Toby, just saw ur unanswered post, as a rural o/ber myself, i suggest u go down thru o/b forum index & look up threads on costing & stages of development (there r a few good hints there) & i've posted up a few headed "tips for O/bers" & my own building progress thru "our last o/b & still good fun" - if u have any further requirements use the "search facilities" for specific items. cheers tony. I must say over the last couple of days I have been hammering this sight and I am now tempted to go with highbury builders, they offer a flexible service so we would still be able to have some control. I am so unsure about going on our own, there is so much to do as you are aware on a rural block. I am sure we could save our selves a fare chunk but if we make silly mistakes it could all be in vain. Thanks again, Toby. A question. Im in Queensland and building a new home. We managed to reach practical completion 6 weeks ago but we haven't heard any date for handover yet.
