Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Nov 18, 2009 12:53 pm We are still waiting for our plans Is there anything I can do in the time being? All I actually have in my posession is the floorplan. I wanted to apply for the OB permit, but apparently you need the building permit. So what can I do to speed things along for when we actually get our plans? All our joinery is done - good old hubby! We know what type of floor we want where (i.e. floorboards, carpet) but Im hesitant in picking carpet colour etc as there will no doubt be discontinued lines etc But I will start looking for plumbing fixtures!! Re: Is there anything we can do in the time being? 12Nov 19, 2009 9:33 am Bam, have you chosen all your externals? Bricks etc?? You'll need all of this for when you apply for DA. I can't wait to see your kitchen plans I'm with the others, start looking/buying taps, sinks, bath, towel rails etc etc Carpet and floor I'd leave till later. What colour paint are you going to have? I was under the impression that they'd need the working drawings? you can get very rough estimates that will be close to the final prices... e.g. estimate how many bricks you have, show the floor plan to a brickie with the rough number of bricks you've come up with and they can give you a price - $x per 1000 bricks.. another example - plumbers can quote off the plan, you dont need elevations for a plumber.. by the way, get every quote in writing. Re: Is there anything we can do in the time being? 16Nov 21, 2009 10:49 pm hey bam congrats hun do you have power yet to the land if not it can take up to 3 months so worth finding out who your energy provider is and get the ball rolling a little bit of paperwork and of course fees stay safe happy building Re: Is there anything we can do in the time being? 17Nov 22, 2009 4:33 pm Thanks hun! Hows your little one going? Power to the land... well, there's power to the street but do you mean have they brought a connection point or something actually on our land (if that makes sense) We're house sitting, so I might have to go back and get our contracts etc to see exactly what, if anything, runs through our block. They wouldnt be abe to dig a trench and whatnot yet without the site being marked out for the house would they? They wouldnt be abe to dig a trench and whatnot yet without the site being marked out for the house would they? our nabors have their meter box on the fence line but ours was put at the front of the house depends where u want it. but what i ment was a thing called a "power pit" dont assume because the powers in the street that you have a pit we were lucky the nabors already got one so we could use that but some pits are way to far for you to use so best find out from the company u are going to use eg:powercore citipower ect. try a google search for power supplier in your area stay safe happy building Re: Is there anything we can do in the time being? 19Nov 22, 2009 7:13 pm Aaah, I see! Thanks hun I'll do some researching! Custom European Cabinets - Melbourne Kitchen Specialist PM for business details as website currently being updated! Our Crazy Owner Builder Journey! Re: Is there anything we can do in the time being? 20Nov 22, 2009 7:16 pm sorry i should explain the "pit" properly. you may have power outside your block but you may not have a pit close to your block. usually they can run 4 or so houses off one pit so there may be 1 near you but you cant use it and need a new one put in. the pit is near the footpath or naturestrip not on your block your electrician uses the pit to access power to your site. you may have to pay full costs on a pit if you are the 1st user but if there is 1 near you then depending on how many houses run off it you only pay a percentage of the costs. if you are 1st then if anyone builds near you in the next 4 yrs(i think its 4) then you get some money back to offset the full costs. it cost us around 500 but our nabors paid 900 they still havnt got their rebate back lol hope this helps gl stay safe happy building I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe.
