Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Oct 20, 2009 11:15 am Hi Folks. We are looking to owner build having no industry experience (knockdown rebuild in an estabilshed area). After having spoken to countless individuals, we are still keen to proceed. We are thinking to do a owner builders course run by a Victorian Tafe. Has anyone done one of these? Where is the best place to study? Is this the way to go? Thanks. Re: Courses in Victoria for wannabe owner builders 2Oct 22, 2009 12:16 am Hi Sassy, i don't know about Victoria, but over here we have to get an o/ber permit from Builders Registration Board. i recon u'll have a simiular body in Vic - give them a ring. i think Homeone might offer a course? do a "search" on the forums. if u haven't had building experience ( ie worked in the industry) i'd strongly recommend u learn the basics - when u r an o/ber u as the registered builder have considerable legal obligations both when building and when selling. check it out, theres not many real "owner bulders" most are "owner supervisors" - in that case don't expect the subbies to be responsible for ur building - its u who r responsible for "supervising" them........ learn as much as u can, read, read & read - visit building sites & talk to subbies....best way to learn - O/bing is very rewarding & there will be a tear or 2 along the way but a lot of self satisfaction when it goes right. hope that helps - cheers tony Re: Courses in Victoria for wannabe owner builders 3Oct 27, 2009 8:03 am Sassy Hi Folks.
