Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Aug 08, 2009 8:19 pm Hi all
I've got quotes from three biggest companies Boral, CSR and Bristile. The cheapest quote for a concrete shingle tile works out to $39 per m2 (including installation) and $51 per m2 for terracotta. Does this sound like a good deal or can I possibly get it cheaper? How much did you pay for your tiled roof? Re: $39 per m2 for roof tiling - good price? 2Aug 10, 2009 3:24 pm come on guys isn't anyone getting a tiled roof? Re: $39 per m2 for roof tiling - good price? 4Aug 10, 2009 4:06 pm mrevp I got a quote for my roof but he didn't say how many m2 my roof is, he just gave me a solid quote, do you know how to work it out? Hmm, all three of my quotes included m2. Who did you get your quote from? Re: $39 per m2 for roof tiling - good price? 6Aug 10, 2009 4:44 pm borg should be under 30 per m2. But that means valleys/hips will be charged etc at a linear meter rate, with that price. Ie its not an average price. Is yorus an average price. Thanks for that borg. No 39 m2 is not my average price it is the cheapest out of the three Hopefully I can get them to drop their price by 25% Re: $39 per m2 for roof tiling - good price? 7Aug 10, 2009 4:52 pm Very rough prices for concrete roof tiles would range from $30/m2 up to $40/m2. For $30/m2 you would get a standard roof tile. For mid $30's/m2 I would expect a shingle type concrete roof tile. Up around $40/m2 I would expect a shingle type tile, with sarking. These rates are overall and include everything the roof tiler needs to do. You have no chance of getting a flat roof tile for $30/m2, so don't worry too much. From memory I am getting roof tiles at about $39-40/m2 and I am using a Boral Striata Premium (Charcoal Grey) with sarking. When you say you got quotes off all the big companies, did you call up any roof tilers, or just go through these companies ? A subcontractor who buys product from a company and installs it will usually be cheaper than a company who employs a subcontractor to install their product. No, I just went through the big companies I was thinking it might be cheaper since they would get trade price, but I just haven't been able to find any roofers who do tiles :S Will have to look harder I think Re: $39 per m2 for roof tiling - good price? 9Aug 10, 2009 8:08 pm gettingThere mrevp I got a quote for my roof but he didn't say how many m2 my roof is, he just gave me a solid quote, do you know how to work it out? Our cheapest terracotta shingle quote is - $21,500 Sarking - $3,500 Guttering etc - $11,100 - $16,900 (still need to compare all the inclusions etc) Re: $39 per m2 for roof tiling - good price? 11Aug 10, 2009 11:02 pm This is the detail in the quote i received colour bond fascia and quad gutters. colour bond downpipes. $6,100 (includes GST) terra cotta roof tiles with battens and reflective sarking. $25,000 (includes GST) 4. Provide safety rail to perimeter of house as required. 5. Remove rubbish as required. 6. All works to be carried out as per OH&S and Australian standards. $2,948 (includes GST) There is no mention of valleys but I am sure it is included, although I would need to confirm I have found dealing direct with the big boys e.g. CSR, Boral etc. is a waste of time, your better off talking to independent roofers. Hope that helps Re: $39 per m2 for roof tiling - good price? 12Aug 11, 2009 1:09 pm mrevp This is the detail in the quote i received colour bond fascia and quad gutters. colour bond downpipes. $6,100 (includes GST) terra cotta roof tiles with battens and reflective sarking. $25,000 (includes GST) 4. Will need to hunt down some intependent tile roofers Re: $39 per m2 for roof tiling - good price? 13Aug 14, 2009 11:12 am Just found out that due to the steel trusses they charge an extra $442.70 to fix battens to steel & $378.81 extra for sarking (on top of the original $3.500) Does this sound reasonable? Re: $39 per m2 for roof tiling - good price? 14Aug 14, 2009 11:14 am Overall, including sarking, the cheapest terracotta quote works out to $62 per m2. Ouch! Re: How much did you pay for your tiled roof? 15Aug 15, 2009 11:48 pm Unsure of my m2 rate but mine was $15k for monier striata flat tile including sarking all laid, its a pretty big roof with lots of angles, gutters & fascia (no downpipes) cost $3200 installed. monier was originally the highest quote I had but after getting all 3 to compete with each others quote I got the price down a fair bit however although the roof looks good from a far they havent done the best job and have left some bits unfinished. it did cost me extra for steel frame too and for many reasons I would certainly say i'd never use steel frame again. Re: How much did you pay for your tiled roof? 16Feb 07, 2010 9:45 pm Did you end up getting terracotta? We're thinking of Boral Terracotta Shingle but not sure how much the price difference would be between this and concrete, so would appreciate it you could share the comparison of your overall quotes? Re: How much did you pay for your tiled roof? 17Feb 09, 2010 6:40 pm I know it is not tiles but our 37sq house in Monument Colorbond / fascia / gutter and including safety scaffolding, and anticon insulation blanket was 14,500. I thought the saying was colorbond costs more than tiles???? Either they are wrong or we got a good price! We're thinking of Boral Terracotta Shingle but not sure how much the price difference would be between this and concrete, so would appreciate it you could share the comparison of your overall quotes? We've had so many delays and the roof still hasn't gone up. The cheapest terracotta price we've been able to get for a 414m2 roof was $18,175 + GST (Bristile fully glazed, includes heavy duty sarking) $43.9 +GST per square metre This is from a small company and we do not like it's terms and conditions (see viewtopic.php?f=31&t=27394 ) Second cheapest terracotta quote was from Boral (french glazed) $23,800 (including GST includes sarking) - works out to $57 per square metre (including gst) Re: How much did you pay for your tiled roof? 19Feb 09, 2010 10:38 pm We've just ordered 22,000 bricks from Boral and are hoping they can do a better price for the roof Re: How much did you pay for your tiled roof? 20Feb 10, 2010 5:47 pm Ive been reading your thread GT - you've had a rought trot so far but lets hope everything else goes smoothly How did the terracotta tiles compare price wise with concrete (if you got concrete quotes)? Im annoyed with boral - they wont calculate how many bricks we need, apparently I have to do it!
