Plasterers will be battening the ceilings this week and starting hanging on Monday now. Just got to get my backside in gear to do the brickwork so we can claim the full lock-up stage payment. Only about 10,000 bricks to lay Who fancys' a bit of labouring then Re: Our first OB What a ride 202Sep 05, 2010 10:17 pm Good to hear that things are moving along and that you have the roof on. I promise to get some pics happening very soon ( for those who are interested) Re: Our first OB What a ride 205Sep 12, 2010 8:40 pm Yes-we are interested! Very inspiring and encouraging for someone hoping to OB early next year (although without any of your building experiences). Quick question re: frame inspection. Was that mandatory or something you opted for just to make sure everything was done correctly? Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. My building thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53000 Re: Our first OB What a ride 211Sep 21, 2010 6:08 pm Plastering is looking mighty fine currently and about two weeks away from being finished. Went out today looking at flooring for the house. Already had a quote for Spotted Gum, 250sqm came in at $19k I thought about using a cheaper species of timber but I really wanted spotted gum. Anyway, new quote was for 315sqm (now doing the bedrooms too) and it came in at a little over $16k including 3 rolls of polythene, 3 boxes of glue and delivery. the material quoted on was 60mm x 21mm spotted gum very happy and they'll store it for us till we're ready too, which is just great. Started the brickwork last weekend and managed to get a couple of corners set up along with the base of the impact piers in front of the garage. Re: Our first OB What a ride 212Sep 21, 2010 8:10 pm Bit of a difference in quotes there Dirk! Bricklaying continuing in earnest now all week, really want to break the back of this, this week. That's if it don't break mine first . Had to buy new mixer last week as the first one wore out due to use. New one is a mini belle 150 electric bought online for $882. Had been quoted over $1300 for same model locally, so again, very happy with my spends. Re: Our first OB What a ride 214Oct 06, 2010 6:57 pm Brickwork should..(if the weather holds) be almost complete by end of play on friday. I now have a labourer due to BIL arriving from the UK last Friday. He's got to earn his keep somehow Re: Our first OB What a ride 215Nov 01, 2010 7:40 pm Yay! brickwork is only half a day away from being complete. Rendered has been applied to one end wall where we have scaffold on hire. this will have a second coat tomorrow then the scaffold can go. BIL has mad a superb job of cleaning site up for me and kept me supplied with bricks and mortar (+the odd cuppa) Plaster is up and stopped + cornice is fixed, all just needs sanding and garage and alfresco ceilings to be hung and stopped. These couldn't be done till brickwork was complete. Door jambs have been installed (on one of the very few wet days I've had) ((I'm being sarcastic there)). Floor has been ordered and is waiting for delivery date. Timber to be ordered and collected for front verandahs. I've been invited to my DS's 4th Birthday on Sunday so I'm taking the day off. WOOHOOOO!! Re: Our first OB What a ride 216Nov 02, 2010 6:32 am AMazing Dirk! Photos? Happy Birthday to DS!
