Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Aug 05, 2009 8:10 pm We're off and running now. seems like ages ago we decided to make the jump to OB our home, but in reality it's only been a matter of weeks. We have land in Drouin in the new "Crystal Waters" estate, if any one knows of it? Architect has been great and very quick with drawings as the block next door already has a house built there but not yet been issued with their C of O. We had the first prelim set sent to us within 5hrs. Just waiting for the finals to arrive by post now so have been busy sending out sets to obtain quotes. Every one asks if we getting my work to build (volume builder employer) but we feel we can save a substantial sum by going along the OB route.

Had the electrical back this morning $18k. Looking forward to getting every thing priced so we know where we stand with it all Re: Our first OB just at planning 5Aug 10, 2009 8:36 pm 500sqm is huge, that will be awesome! (can't wait to see it ) $30k for a colourbond roof Do you have any photos of your land and floor plan? Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Re: Our first OB just at planning 6Aug 10, 2009 11:29 pm Hi dirkadirk, our roof is colourbond also and came in at around $28k including the verandah. But I don't regret any of that, it is great and I looooove the Colourbond. Worth every cent (I feel like one of those colourbond ads, standing there staring at my roof!!). One thing I noticed though - do you want to be walking through the playroom everytime for access between the other "wing" (bed/rumpus/bar/study) and the main living areas. Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: Our first OB just at planning 9Aug 11, 2009 6:37 pm The plan looks great the back of the main house is very similar to our design Looking forward to seeing it all come together. Do you have a time frame in mind? Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Remember, amateurs built the ark, and professionals built the Titanic." Thought someone might pick up on that. The wing is actually going to be a kind of granny annex, which has it's own entrance to the left of the garage. With a lockable door between the two areas at the play room to keep the outlaw out Re: Our first OB just at planning 12Aug 11, 2009 8:25 pm Hels The plan looks great the back of the main house is very similar to our design Looking forward to seeing it all come together. Do you have a time frame in mind? Yeah, have to admit we trawled through stacks of displays and came up with this design based around several others (PD Illoura included). Architect brought it all together pretty well though. We were told we have 12mths in which to start living there. I think the developers stated that to try and stop people just sitting on the land for ages. That fatefull day when we just went to have a look. Cute DS too I thought I could see a bit of Illoura in there, the architect did a great job The 12 month thing seems to be pretty standard, it was the same deal at MW. I think I'm pretty safe with that one, it's only DW & I who know how to fly this mac thingy Re: Our first OB What a ride 16Aug 18, 2009 8:03 pm More quotes back recently. Another roof one $24k Kitchen & Bar $22k (incl ceasarstone benches @40mm thick) Frame & Trusses $31k Still waiting for slab design from engineer along with retaining wall design, all based around outcome of soil report of course. All in all the costings are pretty good and on track for our "budget" Re: Our first OB What a ride 17Aug 31, 2009 5:57 pm Dirkadirk, I'm building a frame for an OB in Berwick, he's after someone to quote his colorsteel roof, any suggestions, my Folks live out in Drouin, I know it pretty well, I'm sure you'll enjoy the pace of the place............. Shaun Re: Our first OB What a ride 18Aug 31, 2009 7:50 pm Shaun, Have sent you a PM with contact details on. The company I work for has used all of these and although the last one comes from Ballarat, they were the cheapest (like for like), by around $5k. Yes, I do like the feel of Drouin, very....relaxed way of life I think. Looking forward to getting things moving on site now though. Have to finalise quotes and then get relevant permits, but that shouldn't be too much of a problem though Good luck with that frame. Dirk Re: Our first OB What a ride 20Sep 19, 2009 2:29 pm arniedog dirkadirk, Are these quotes your getting for supply and install? Arniedog Some of the quotes are for supply & install, but they're the ones such as plumbing and electrical. The rest are for supply only and for me to install. Dirk 11 40687 Thank you.
