Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum Re: Our first OB What a ride 161Jun 25, 2010 9:55 am The weather has been good to me this week. Managed to get back yesterday to make a start on the sub floor framing and finish of concreting the stumps in. All going smoothly till my mate sliced his arm open on an ant cap (required 9 stitches and a tetanus jab). I did comment "if this is what it does to him imagine what it does to the ants" He did make some sort of unrepeatable comment but saw the funny side. Anyway off to the city today for my DW's birthday surprise's. Then back at the house on Sunday. All sub floor sheet flooring has been fixed into position so I'll be shifting the rest of the frame across tomorrow to try and get that up ready for the help arriving on monday. That's when (hopefully) the rest of the roof trusses will be getting placed and fixed. We got quoted $16.4k for our roof trusses I don't think I needed to install it but I did anyway. I used 10mm Foilboard suspended between the floor joists which gives it a R1.5 rating. I'll be using foilboard for the external "wrap" too which comes in at R2.2 + blanket in the wall cavity. I think our trusses came in at around the $14k mark. Re: Our first OB What a ride 169Jul 10, 2010 7:22 pm Big is good (as long as you don't have to clean it)! Re: Our first OB What a ride 171Jul 10, 2010 7:52 pm Sounds to be coming along nicely We will be heading out there again in a couple of weeks' time to pay our 10% dep so it will be good to see your progress again. Nice that the weather has been better too, won't be so much of an issue once you get on the inside Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. Also had help yesterday as well so we managed to get the remaining walls up that were required. Today we got almost every truss into position and fixed. Just have the area over the small deck (over the water tank) to finish tomorrow. Todays help is coming back to play again tomorrow, which should just about see all the bracing, clips and ties on too. Hopefully I can book the inspection for the end of the week now Re: Our first OB What a ride 173Jul 13, 2010 8:47 pm We managed to finish the roof entirely today . Glad to see the back of all the trusses and frames laying about the place. However, we did manage to have one spare truss left over . every thing worked out dimension wise and no spaces were greater than the required 900mm centres. We figured it must have been due to a computer program working out that it needed another one in a particular section. All the multigrips were fixed around the perimeter along with cyclone straps too. heres a pic of the finished roof. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have a roof completed. If I can finish ours first then I'd be happy to oblige. I have booked the frame inspection for tomorrow (Monday), hopefully it passes ok I was cold called by a roof plumber who fitted our neighbours roof across the road, asking if Id had a quote or organised someone for our roof? I emailed him our plans last night and checked emails this morning at 6.30am and there was our quote from him. Very happy as it was around $6k cheaper based on like for like too. Big bonus is that he can start the end of next week on the fascia and gutters, then return the following week for the roof Re: Our first OB What a ride 178Jul 18, 2010 9:34 pm I wish tradies would just fall in our laps too You're flying along! Re: Our first OB What a ride 179Jul 19, 2010 8:08 pm I had a frame inspection booked for this afternoon. So I spent all day charging around like a madman trying to get everything ready for it. Double checked all the cyclone straps, multi grips to feet of trusses, speed braces, then fixed all ply sheet bracing. Then I thought I'd better build the two load bearing walls that were slightly off when we put the frame up. I left at 5pm. no building inspector had visited or called to say he was delayed I really wanted to be there hen he inspected it so if anything was wrong I could maybe rectify it whilst he was on site? Unfortunately, I'm working in Traralgon for the next three or four days trying to get the lock-up finished there. Roof plumber confirmed that materials would be delivered on Wednesday and they would start on Thursday. Re: Our first OB What a ride 180Jul 21, 2010 8:06 pm Made contact with the building inspector today and unfortunately our frame didn't quite pass. Need to fix some more noggings in the new walls (run out of light when I built them on Monday). Had one more piece of ply bracing to fix, bracing straps to have a couple of nails in them and a couple of skid blocks were missed out. So all in all I didn't fair too badly. Will return there tomorrow and tidy things up and get it re-inspected either Friday or Monday. Sparky booked for his rough in Friday week, will try and get plumber to rough in around the same time too along with heating/cooling as well. Then ready for plaster WOHOO!! Next draw down from the bank was in our account this morning which is just awesome as we can now pay our accounts and other tradies that have either supplied or helped on the frame stage. 11 41611 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7271 Can anyone give me any onfo on New Homes WA? Good or bad, hopefully good just need to know if my choice was good or not? Thanks ❤️ 0 8936 |
