Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum Re: Our first OB What a ride 224Dec 20, 2010 7:00 pm BenPrin First up, amazing build! VERY similar to our proposed build! We're also adding a granny annex - or 'servants quarters' onto the side of our house for, "later on". Lovely wording on the plan there too. I hope Nana loves baking in her "bar"! Am LOVING this thread! Cant wait to see your finished product. dirkadirk tolitowigene Dirk, would you mind sharing the name of the spotted gum supplier.......please? I have pm'd you the details for the flooring Company. May I be so bold? Would love the details too! Thanks and good luck! prin x Thanks BenPrin. It's been a long hard slog what with the weather this year. Couldn't have picked a wetter year even if I'd tried harder With regards to the spotted gum supplier I will PM you the details. We actually had the first load delivered today and it took me and my BIL 4 hrs to carry it and stack it inside the house. Next delivery is scheduled for Thursday, not sure I'm looking forward to that delivery though. Where are you planning your build, if you don't mind me asking? I will eventually get some more pics happening but working 7 days a week it leaves very little time to do much else. My lovely wife says she hasn't seen me for the past 18 months. Good luck Dirk Re: Our first OB What a ride 225Dec 20, 2010 8:17 pm dirkadirk It's been a long hard slog what with the weather this year. It has been a wet ol year, hasnt it? I'll remember this as we're hoping to 'break ground' mid next year (once planning comes through - but everyone says, "don't start in the wet weather! Been nothing BUT wet weather since about September this year! We're gut and renovating/extending out a very small brick veneer house in the Dandenong Ranges, South East of Melb. Beautiful acre of green belt country. Had the house a long while and hope to sell our inner city warehouse to fund it all. Mortgage free is the aim... oh please let our aim be true! I love spotted gum too - we're planning on all hardwood/tile so that will be a very helpful contact. Thanks again! Cant WAIT to see more of your pics! So exciting and extra exciting to see a similar project. prin x - Planning to renovate/extend and add on. Dec 10 - Soil test & Bush fire report completed. Jan 11 - Final drafting plans ready. Re: Our first OB What a ride 226Dec 22, 2010 9:20 pm Yay! Tiles are on site now, all 70+sqm of them. 600x600 tiles for our side and std 400x400 form MIL's side. First batch of flooring arrived on Monday and took for evveeeeerr to carry and stack in the house, 4hrs to be exact. Next delivery due tomorrow Email from cabinet makers today stating that all cabinetry will be delivered tomorrow too. But we'll have to wait till mid Jan for the doors though. Might take me that long to assemble that lot as we bought it all flat packed so we could install ourselves and save a few extra $$'s. I've still been trying to install our neighbours retaining wall for them which is almost 50m long and 2.4m at the highest point. Can't do an awful lot in 100mm of mud and slop though Finished up work for the Christmas break now so off to the house for the hols. I'm allowed the two main days off though but if MIL had her way I'd be there 24/7 with no break. Can't seem to understand that I need to earn an income as well as build this house too. Does make me a tad annoyed at times Will get lots of pics so all you photo junkies can take a peek.....soon Happy Christmas every one Dirk Re: Our first OB What a ride 227Dec 23, 2010 12:00 am yeah pics wooohooo cant wait stay safe happy building Re: Our first OB What a ride 228Feb 02, 2011 6:56 pm Happy New year to all the OB'ers out there. Where did January go??? All walls and ceilings are painted, electrical fit off nearing completion, main kitchen, pantry, laundry and display cabinets are all fitted. MIL's kitchen was delivered today and all our doors should arrive next week along with bench tops and glass splash back. I've started laying the spotted gum floor and it looks awesome, so far I've fixed around 75sqm's so only another 250 to go All entrance doors and internal glazed doors are ready to be hung and I've just got to get the last 10 std internal doors now. Probably spent far too much time on the house during Jan but I just want to get in there now. Hopefully by the end of March I guess. Finally got hold of our plumbers today to get them to return to move some sewer pipes and install the storm water. Had a complaint via our surveyor today from the neighbour about the water run off onto her property. No downpipes fitted as yet so there has been a lot of run off just recently. So I look forward to seeing the plumber on site next wednesday? Re: Our first OB What a ride 229Feb 03, 2011 6:13 pm Your house sound amazing, will watch your build.looking forward to seeing lots of pic when you finish Re: Our first OB What a ride 230Feb 10, 2011 9:43 am Woohoo! We have downpipes connected and all sewer connections have bee adjusted and completed. Can finally get the wet area floors screeded now. Plasterers have come back, so the garage & alfresco' are almost complete now. Thankfully we didn't suffer any damage due to floods at the house. Our neighbour went and checked and gave us a call to let us know. Wasn't so lucky at home though. Spent most of Friday night & all day Saturday clearing our garage out as that's where we stored everything while the outlaws are staying with us. Mil told DW that we were stupid for storing stuff there anyway. Then we told her it was stored there because when she moved in it used to be in her room, nice and dry too. Her response was "oh well". Grrrrr!!! Re: Our first OB What a ride 231Feb 12, 2011 11:13 am Glad the new house held up well with the floods, sorry to hear about the current house though Did you lose much? Re: Our first OB What a ride 232Feb 13, 2011 8:32 am Love that you went with the spotted gum. We are hoping to get that too. Have you got pics of your floors? I've been so busy working that I haven't really had time to get on the computer and post anything. Change of jobs has helped the house along as I now contract for a stair company installing them Monday - Thursday then work on the house Friday - Sunday. Also if I manage to finish early I sneak off to the house too. Progress thus far is... we have all cabinetry installed (just handles to be fitted). Walls/ceilings painted, I have finished the 'fix' now, the floor has been fully installed and has been sanded and polished (they finished today) YAY . We need the plumber back now. Shower screens are ready to be installed, Garage doors have been ordered (due next week), Deck and verandah material is on site ready to be fixed/fitted, sparkies have powered everything up except our lights, so they are due back next week. Stone bench tops have been fitted. Just waiting for glass splashback to be installed. I think that's every thing that's happened Back to the house tomorrow to work on the verandahs (as I can't go in the house till Saturday due to the floor polishing). Re: Our first OB What a ride 234Aug 08, 2011 10:49 am Well, here we are again. We finally moved into the house on the 1st July. I took a chance and moved in without C of O. Every thing had been connected and certified and we were getting fed up paying rent when the house was livable. We had our C of O inspection last week and it passed. Just have a few minor things to finish off now, but it's so much easier working there either after my day job or at the weekends now. Just got the computer set up so will post some pics (finally) by the weekend.
