Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jul 25, 2009 7:48 pm Had one of those days today. Last week the roofer rang me up and said he couldn't finish our flashing because there was 1 inch of structural particleboard overhanging. So guess who was up there all day today chipping away at the particleboard, in an area too fiddly to get power tools in to. aaaaarrgggghhh x 1. While I was doing that the guy from wetseal came round to look at the balcony and said that the particleboard laid on the balcony was not to regulations and would have to be covered with 15mm ply before he could wetseal on it. aaaarrrggghh x 2. Then after that I was idly looking through the bumph given to me by the window supplier and found a line that said "do not use expanding foam round the windows". Oops. Apparently it can cause the frames to bow. Hopefully all is OK and I don't have to strip all the expanding foam out but this may cause a few sleepless nights. aaaaaarrrrggghhh x 3. Miss Moneypenny is convinced we have taken on too much............... aaaaarrrggghhhh x 4 JB Re: One of those days when you wonder if it is all worth it..... 2Jul 25, 2009 8:34 pm awwww tomorrow is another day i mean how bad can it get lol interesting about the expanding foam around windows we were going to use that too i mean "holmes on holmes" always uses it hmmmmmm stay safe happy building Re: One of those days when you wonder if it is all worth it..... 3Aug 01, 2009 12:46 pm How is it going JB? Hope you managed to sort it all out. Looking forward to some new pics Well all the above is now sorted out! I have laid 12mm CD grade plywood on top of the particleboard, all the windows are now straightened out ready to be glazed and the roof flashing is finished. All in all those 3 things set me back about 3 working days, which is about 2 weeks in elapsed time - 2 Saturdays and 1 Friday annual leave! There are still a couple more things that have to be sorted out before the cladders can start - next Saturday I am installing the external doors. This is something I have never done before (mind you I had never installed windows either) and I have employed a chippy on an hourly rate to help me with this - I'l be his "apprentice" for the day. He's quite happy for me to learn from him which is good! I'll try an upload some photos tomorrow when I recover from today's work. I'm trying not to do physical work on the house on Sundays as I do need a day off from both work and house building!
