Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jun 21, 2009 7:36 pm Hi All, Does anyone have any experience with getting planning permits for secondary dwellings on a rural property in Victoria? (Hepburn Shire to be precise but experience in other areas would be interesting to know.) We're possibly looking at buying an existing property of around 20 acres and then down the track OBing a granny flat for one of our parents (preferably about 1km away ). I have no idea if the council is likely to raise any objections. I'm going to call tomorrow to discuss with them but real life experience is often more useful. We are finding council to be very flexible with the rules so hope you find the same thing. "A dream you dream alone is only a dream. Currently applying to build the main residence. The main issues with our council (logan city, QLD) were the size of the granny flat (not more than 70m2) and proximity to the main residence (not more than 20m away). I would certainly go and have a chat to local council and see what they say. Technically, ours is called an 'annexed unit'. Love Kristi Living the dream. 4 horsey acres in the country. What's the next project??? I would suggest you simply go and talk to council about your proposal, most councils are getting onboard with ancillary dwellings.
