Browse Forums Owner Builder Forum 1 Jun 12, 2009 10:33 pm hi just started the OB process and was wondering whether $2100 is good for soil classification plus the engineer footing plan to submit to council. Have no idea, we have had quotes for the soil classification at $700 -$800 only. But it is hard to get some engineers just to give us a ball part figure for the footing plan even with the house plan. Should we just go with this Re: new to OB is $2100 good for soil test and footing plan 2Jun 12, 2009 10:54 pm Seems kinda steep: the soil test is expensive I think. Average rate I have heard is between $400-$600. Some people have paid $600-$700 for engineering too. Have you tried to get more quotes? Re: new to OB is $2100 good for soil test and footing plan 3Jun 13, 2009 9:42 am Yeah soil test should be under $400. I paid about $250+gst Engineering however all depends on how complex your design is. Mine was bloody expensive as I had tree root barriers, piers and a lot of steel work to do because my upper storey is set inside of the ground floor entirely. Re: new to OB is $2100 good for soil test and footing plan 4Jun 13, 2009 12:28 pm I recently paid $900 for soil classification, wind classification, footing design, AWTS design (Wastewater System as there is no town sewerage) and stormwater overflow design (no council stormwater). Cheers Re: new to OB is $2100 good for soil test and footing plan 5Jun 13, 2009 3:31 pm I have only had 2 quotes for the soil tests and not any others for the footings. Looks like I will have to get more quotes for both and maybe it is more expensive for Murrumbateman region. Since we don't have the sewer', does the soil test include the drainage for the septic. Good news got a quote back for $880 for the soil and footings. pays to shop around, saved over half from the first quote PM me your email. I have a build excavation calculator you can use based on your plans to double check what your builder is telling you.
